QUESTIONS, WE GET QUESTIONS
Even though it’s summertime – our offices continue to be a whirlwind of activity as we prepare for the start of school. Yep – meetings, planning, preparation of materials – and more! While many items are still a ‘work in progress’ we thought it would be good to share a few tidbits that are solid. Here are a few items folks have been asking about – and we will continue to provide info in the weeks ahead. Our best advice at this point, though, is to relax and have a little patience as we work to get things finalized for the school year. Don’t worry - we got you.
Will Meals Be Free When We Go Back to School?
We’ve been hearing from lots of folks wondering about the status of the Free Meals for All served through our Milford Foodservice team once we return to school. The answer is: we don’t know yet
As you may remember, we were able to serve lunches and breakfasts to ALL students, free of charge, for the past 2 years, thanks to COVID-19 federal funding. Now that the conditions surrounding the pandemic are changing, so are the terms of the many programs that were implemented as COVID relief.
Our Foodservice Team expects to get some information very soon from both the state and the federal government on school foodservice funding and how that will impact our School Foodservice program. Stay tuned….
Kindergarten Questions: What Can I Expect?
As we get deeper into the summer, the number of questions we receive from new families increases. Parents of incoming Kindergartners and other students entering MPS for the first time are thinking about the start of school. Here are a few items we’ve been asked by parents over the past few weeks:
When is the first day of school? Wednesday, August 31, 2022.
Is there a supply list of items we need to purchase for the start of school? No. There is no mandatory supply list for any MPS student. Items that will be needed in the classroom will be distributed to each student on the first day of school.
When is Kindergarten Orientation? Tuesday, August 30, 2022.
All Kindergarten families will be receiving a ‘Save the Date’ card soon – but as a ‘heads up’ today – go ahead and reserve Tuesday, Aug. 30th as Kindergarten Orientation. Plans are still being solidified – so watch for details in the weeks ahead. We can’t wait to meet all of you!
How Will We Connect With You Before Then? In multiple ways! As details are finalized, we will share info with you in a variety of ways – news will be uploaded to the district website, we’ll tweet, we’ll send emails, and regular mail. Don’t worry – we’ll make sure you have all the information you need!
Summer Learning With MPS: Practice Makes Perfect!
Wondering where your student/s can brush up and practice their math or reading skills over the summer? Easy peasy! Visit our Summer Learning page on the district website. There’s a wide variety of games, activities and more found there – all according to the student’s grade level. Check it out!
How Many Beads Have You Collected So Far?
The Milford Public Library Read-And-Bead program is going like wildfire – with students reading, and reading, and READING!! The MPL has created a free, incentive-based program – students are welcome to sign up and, at the time of registering, participants will receive a necklace, a brag tag, and a special welcome bead to begin your reading journey over the summer. Additional ‘Camp Badges’ are available along the way with incentives. Here’s the FLYER providing some additional details. So keep reading … and collect those beads!
