Dear Milford Public Schools Parents and Guardians,

As we prepare for the next phase of our  response to COVID-19 in our schools, I write to you today to ask for your help.  On Monday, February 28, 2022, our district will enter a Mask Optional environment in all of our public school buildings.  Students and staff will have the choice to either wear or not wear a face mask while at school.  We will, however, still monitor case rates in our schools.

As of this writing, we are hoping you will partner with us as we provide an additional way to monitor self health as we enter the Mask Optional setting in our schools.  Beginning Thursday, February 24, 2022, we will offer every student and staff member a free, COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test Kit.  Accepting a free test kit and subsequently taking the test is completely voluntary.  Each kit contains 2 complete tests and will be offered as follows:

High Schools: Test kits will be offered directly to all students during the school day. Middle and Elementary Schools: Test kits will be offered to all parents/guardians at dismissal (for those in vehicles waiting for their student and for walker pickups).

After-School Hours: For families that were not able to receive a free test kit at the end of the school day, the free test kits will continue to be distributed at the front entrances of Jonathan Law High School and  Joseph A. Foran High School, on Thursday, 2/24, from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. This will be a drive-thru pickup. Directional signage and staff will be available to assist you upon arrival.

During School Hours: If you are unable to pick up a test kit during the above times, test kits will be available for pickup at your child’s school during school hours excluding drop-off times.  Please visit the front entrance and someone will assist you.

Test Timing Suggestion: Monday morning The Connecticut Department of Public Health and the Connecticut State Department of Education have recommended that all staff and students complete the self-test on Monday morning, (Feb. 28th). Again, accepting a free test kit and subsequently taking the test is completely voluntary but we hope you will join your school community members as we continue to work to keep everyone in our schools safe and healthy.

Thank you, as always, for your partnership and support.

Anna Cutaia, Ed.D.
