Dear Members of the Milford Public Schools Community,
As you know, the Milford School Foodservice team has been working tirelessly over the past 18 months to ensure that our students and families receive nutritious meals, even in the midst of a global pandemic. Unfortunately, the residual effects of the pandemic are now taking hold, most notably in the form of a strained supply chain -- across the entire country.
You may have noticed this yourself on your own visits to the grocery store where many shelves are empty due to product shortages and you need to adjust ‘on the fly’ in order to feed your family. The Milford School Foodservice team is facing those very same challenges every day as they serve thousands of meals to our students and staff members.
Today, we are asking for your patience as we work through the many logistical issues we are facing in order to serve healthy, nutritious meals to our students across the district.
The School Nutrition Association prepared this video to explain why and how the supply chain issue is affecting school cafeterias across the country. We ask you to watch this 2-minute video so you will more fully understand the challenges we, as a nation, are working through.
As we continue to work through these issues, please know we are collaborating with our distributors to secure both the food and supply items we need to support our school nutrition program. But -- please know -- we also are oftentimes forced to make changes ‘on the fly’ and need to alter our menu at the last minute, oftentimes when we discover a key ingredient has not arrived in our food deliveries from our vendors.
One final thought we’d like to share with you. While the daily menu may be different from what we originally planned, please know that all students receive a complete, nutritious meal -- prepared and served that very day. In order to find out what will be served in our school cafeteria that day, we urge you to download and use the MPS App, available on your Smart device through Google Play or the App Store (depending on your device). Menu changes are entered on the App immediately and you can be sure to get the latest and most accurate information there.
As we navigate this challenging time, we appreciate your patience and understanding. Our school nutrition team is committed to ensuring students continue to receive healthy, age-appropriate meals each school day. If you have any questions, please call the Food Services office at (203) 783-3490 or you may email me at efaustich@milforded.org.
Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Eileen Faustich, Director
