MILFORD, Conn., Aug. 15, 2024 – Milford Public Schools is pleased to announce Dr. Andrew Deacon will be assuming the role of Supervisor of Student Development and Academic Success for the district at the start of the 2024-25 school year. With a career spanning over 15 years, Dr. Deacon has experience as an educator and an administrator.
He first received his education at Manhattanville College where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in art history with a minor in French in 2008. He then went on to earn three degrees from the University of Bridgeport, a Master’s degree in elementary Education (2011), a sixth-year degree in remedial reading and language arts (2017) and a Doctorate in educational leadership (2021).
Dr. Deacon began his career in 2008 as a French and Spanish teacher at Forman School. After completing his Master’s degree, he taught at the elementary level for four years at Colebrook Consolidated School and Torringford School.
While at Torrington Public Schools, Dr. Deacon held several other positions – Numeracy Coach & Interventionist, Literary Specialist, Assistant Principal of Vogel-Wetmore Elementary School, and most recently Director of Intervention & Academic Support K-5 where he oversaw the curriculum, instruction, assessment, intervention programming and professional development for four elementary schools.
In this role, Dr. Deacon led teams of educators in the development of equitable and accessible curricula, constructed a comprehensive and coherent district improvement plan that focused on bolstering student outcomes, developed and implemented a robust Multi-tiered System of Supports to meet the individual needs of all students, and initiated a student-centered coaching model, resulting in a districtwide common approach to instructional coaching.
Dr. Deacon is looking forward to joining the Milford Public Schools community and brings his passion for supporting every student’s individual path to learning to his role.
