Emily Flamme Named Communications Coordinator for MPS

MILFORD – The Milford Public School district is pleased to announce the appointment of Emily Flamme to the position of Communications Coordinator.  Ms. Flamme will begin serving in this district wide role on July 1st, when long-time staffer Kathy Bonetti retires at the end of June.

Ms. Flamme earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism with a minor concentration in biology from Quinnipiac University in 2022. She continued her studies at Quinnipiac and received a Master of Science degree in public relations in 2023.

Although she originally intended to pursue a dual-degree program in molecular and cell biology, Flamme’s career path took a major pivot upon attending the school’s involvement fair during her first few weeks there. While there, she encountered the team from the Quinnipiac Chronicle, the school’s student-run newspaper, and quickly immersed herself in the world of journalism.  What was a chance encounter at a college fair became Flamme’s passion.  She served as a news editor and was quickly promoted to managing editor a year later.  During her tenure with the Chronicle, Flamme authored more than 80 articles, ranging from stories about the impact of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas on local families, to COVID-19 news, to LGBTQ issues in the community.

Flamme entered the profession in 2022 as a content strategy intern for Hartford HealthCare.  Her work there involved significantly improving HHC’s social media presence, achieving a 15% increase in engagement across multiple platforms.  She also prepared and distributed media alerts and wrote scripts for integrated TV partnerships, ensuring brand messaging consistency.

In addition to her internship, Flamme served as a research assistant for the Institute for Public Relations.  While there, she produced and edited a weekly research newsletter with a readership of more than 20,000.  Additional responsibilities included managing the Institute’s website content and developing community engagement and outreach.

In 2023, Flamme joined Big Voice Communications as the firm’s media relations coordinator.  During her time there, Flamme coordinated international, national, and local earned media placements for 10 clients through strategic pitches, press releases, and media alerts, resulting in features in outlets such as The Washington Post, GenomeWeb, ABC, Newsweek, and the Hartford Business Journal. She also has led media strategy development for clients, aligning initiatives with organizational goals and delivering measurable objectives.

Flamme also co-authored a study released in the Journal of Media Ethics that was published in December 2023. The research focused on how communications practitioners can practice ethical listening for their organizations.

“I am honored and thrilled to step into this role,” Flamme shared. “I believe there is nothing more valuable than supporting the education of young minds. I can’t wait to join the team and to combine my passion for communications and education.”

Dr. Anna Cutaia, superintendent, is looking forward to Flamme joining the team.  “We look forward to having Ms. Flamme join our team to continue our school system’s excellent record with transparent and relevant communications.  She will bring valuable knowledge and skills to our efforts as we continue to meet the needs of our various stakeholders.”
