Jay Rowe’s “Smooth Jazz for Scholars” Celebrates 21st Annual Benefit Concert

MILFORD –World renowned jazz musician and composer Jay Rowe is eagerly looking forward to what he is calling ‘the best concert ever’ as he prepares for the 21st Annual ‘Smooth Jazz for Scholars’ performance on April 19th and 20th at the Parsons Auditorium in Milford. For the past 2 decades, Rowe has put together this incredible 2-night lineup, featuring professional jazz artists from across the country to benefit the music program in the Milford Public Schools. From the very beginning, Jay has donated a portion of the ticket sales to the MPS music department as a way to remember and thank the teachers he encountered at the beginning of his music career while a student here in Milford. Approximately $92,250 has been raised and donated to this program.
Concert Talent Lineups
Friday, April 19: Steve Oliver (guitar), Vincent Ingala (saxophone), Marcus Anderson (saxophone), Althea Rene (flute) and Jay Rowe (keyboards).
Saturday April 20: Marion Meadows (saxophone), Steve Cole (saxophone), Blake Aaron (guitar), Alex Bugnon (piano), Timmy Maia (vocals), and Jay Rowe, (keyboards).
Location: Parsons Complex Veterans Memorial Auditorium, 70 W. River Street, Milford, CT 06460.
Time: Doors open at 7:00 p.m., and showtime is 8:00 p.m.
Tickets: $50.00 each for one night, and $85.00 for both nights.

Each year, the concert draws many long-time local supporters as well as jazz aficionados who travel to Milford from out-of-state.
“It gives me great pleasure to put together this first-rate performance while, at the same time, being able to contribute to a cause that is near and dear to my heart,” Rowe said. “For the past 20 years we have presented 32 of the biggest names in the smooth jazz genre making this a desired event for performers and concert attendees. To bring awareness and attention to the importance of music education is why we do this every year.”
