Dr. Cutaia Letter: Additional Preschool Offering Announced for Kids Born Between 9/1/2019-12/31/2019

As you may remember, a new piece of legislation was passed by the Connecticut General Assembly back in June that changed the Kindergarten Age of Entrance, requiring students to be at least 5 years of age on or before September 1st

On Friday, the district announced an option for children born between September 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019, to support the families of children who previously would have entered Kindergarten in the fall and now are no longer automatically eligible.  An MPS Preschool Program experience will be offered – at a reduced rateonly for children born between Sept. 1, 2019 and Dec. 31, 2019This program will be in place for the 2024-25 school year only.

To Apply

Parents of students born between Sept. 1 – Dec. 31, 2019 are asked to begin the process by completing the pre-application form here.  You will also need to supply the first page of your 1040 Tax Submission for tax year 2022.

While we support the change in the legislation for Kindergarten, we realize the one year notice for families who were planning to send their child to school next year may cause a financial hardship.  We hope the addition of this one-time offer, at a reduced rate, will help ease the strain for these families.

If you have any questions, please contact Terese Maguire, Supervisor of Early Childhood Education at tmaguire@milforded.org.
