ICYMI: In Case You Missed It – Letter from Dr. Cutaia @ Kindergarten Registration Starting on Nov. 13th!

Earlier this afternoon, we distributed a letter to everyone in the Milford Public Schools community from Dr. Cutaia announcing the opening of our Kindergarten Registration on 11/13.  Due to the recently passed legislation by the state, students entering kindergarten next fall (2024-25 school year) must be at least 5 years of age before September 1st (the previous cutoff date was December 31st).  Dr. Cutaia provides many details on how to proceed. LETTER.

 

Election Day is Tuesday, 11/7; Make Sure You VOTE!

Every year when Election Day rolls around, we are reminded of the incredible opportunity we have before us.  Not sure where you are supposed to vote?  This VOTER REGISTRATION LOOKUP will identify your polling place for you (it’s operated by the Office of the Secretary of State for Connecticut). Polls are open on Tuesday from 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

1 Week Left: Bring in Your ‘Thanks for Giving’ Food Drive Donations

Thanks to our wonderful school community, we’ve been receiving hundreds of items over the past week for the scout’s annual Thanks for Giving Food Drive. We only have 1 week left – so please make sure you send in your donations next week for the collection box.  This FLYER provides all kinds of suggestions for donations: ‘thanks for giving!’

 

Thanksgiving Day Game Details, 11/23 @ Foran High This Year, 10:30 a.m.

Save the Date!  We’ve been receiving some calls about this year’s Thanksgiving Day Game details.  Here’s what you need to know.  The ‘big game’ will be held on Thanksgiving Day (11/23) at Foran High School.  Game time is 10:30 a.m.  Tickets will be on sale at FORAN HS and JLAW HS for $5 each (pre-sale) through Wednesday, Nov. 22.  Tix at the gate on game day will be $7. Mark your calendars now!

 

Saturday, 11/4: Kids COVID Vax Clinic, held at Milford Public Library, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.; ages 6 mos. to 18 years, FREE

Just a reminder: the Milford Health Department has arranged for a Free COVID-19 Vax Clinic for kids to take place at Milford Public Library tomorrow, (Saturday, 11/4) from 9:00 – 1:00.  Please make an appointment – see FLYER for details.

Save the Date: here’s a great opportunity to connect with one or more of the many organizations that are in place for our families:  food assistance, medical assistance, mental health support, disability information – and much, much more. The Milford Public Schools event will take place right here at the Parsons Auditorium Lobby on Wednesday, 11/15 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. The event is free – but we do ask you to pre-register.  Click HERE for registration information.

 

EVENTS/PROGRAMS

 

Saturday, 11/4: Reducing Children’s Exposure to PFAS, Sponsored by the ECC and the Milford Dept. of Open Space; held at Harborside Middle School, 1:00 p.m.

What are PFAS? They are synthetic chemicals that were developed back in the 1940s and used in products around the world.  In more recent years, the presence of PFAS in water and food (in particular) are causing concern for the health of humankind.  Want to learn more about it?  You are welcome to attend a public talk, delivered by Dr. Sten H. Vermund, epidemiologist and pediatrician at Yale School of Public Health. FLYER.

 

Thursday, 11/9: Milford Fencing Club to Conduct Open House

Ever consider learning the art of Fencing? The Milford Fencing Club is conducting an Open House on Thursday, Nov. 9th – for anyone ages 10-110 – to learn more about this interesting sport.  The event will be held at The Academy gymnasium, 140 Gulf Street.  Start time is 7:00 p.m. All are welcome. No experience necessary. FLYER.

 

Milford Turkey Trot – Thanksgiving Morning: For the benefit of Milford organizations; Race begins at 9:00 a.m.

Thanks to the efforts of the Milford Education Foundation, the Milford Turkey Trot will take place on Thanksgiving morning.  1, 2 or 3+ Mile Run/Walk Options.  The race kicks off at the McCann Natatorium Parking Lot (behind the Academy) at 80 Park Circle.  Pre-Registration and ticket info on the FLYER.  Proceeds directly support Milford Public Schools programs, The Cure Starts Now, and Purple Pantry Boxes. Enjoy food, fun, and the Rum Runners (who will begin performing at 8:00 A.M.!).

 

Have You Considered Joining the Friends of the Milford Public Library?

The Friends of the Milford Public Library have provided SO many great programs and resources for everyone in our city:  young, old, and in-between.  Take one look at the MPL Monthly Calendar, and it’s obvious their work impacts hundreds of residents.  One way you can help is to become a member of the Friends group.  For as little as $15 a year, you can help make the MPL programming available to attendees … for free.  Check it out (no pun intended!).
