Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff Members,

The recent attacks and continued violence between Israel and the Palestinian territories have dominated the news cycle since last weekend.  Some families in Connecticut are likely to have direct ties to the areas of conflict and may be concerned about the welfare of family and friends in the region. In this moment of sadness and challenge, it is our primary focus to support all of our students, staff, and families.

In an effort to prioritize the emotional well-being of our students at this time, we encourage you to consider limiting your child’s exposure to graphic and distressing images of violence that are being shared on television and via social media platforms. With the very real possibility of traumatizing images becoming widespread, it is suggested that parents closely monitor their child’s interaction with such content both on the internet and other media sources.

Images of violence can be frightening and difficult for children to understand.  We suggest you give your child a safe space to discuss what they have heard, concerns they may have, and remind them they always can discuss sensitive topics with the trusted adults in their life. Additionally, providing opportunities for your child to take action and regain a sense of control and predictability can greatly reduce anxiety.  Look for volunteer organizations or other local opportunities in which your child may become involved.  In addition, please read the resources below that can help you with any future discussions or needs your child may have.
