Parent Weekly 4/8/22

4-8-22

Dear WSMS Families,

We had an exciting week here at West Shore! Mr. Crooks and his 6th graders will be featured on WTNH, channel 8 News, “What’s Right With Schools.” The students showed the news crew all of the amazing work they did to create the Robot Olympics! I was blown away by what the students said about the experience when they were interviewed. They explained how they kept making mistakes and how they had to keep trying until they got it right. They expressed how it was hard, but also how much they enjoyed the challenge. They were super proud to show what their robots can do. This is exactly what we want for our students! We want to present them with real life, challenging tasks, and ask them to be resilient and persevere! This is such a valuable life skill. I am grateful to Mr. Crooks for providing our students with this learning experience. The segment will be airing on the 5:00 news this Tuesday. The reporter said it would likely be on at around 5:45.

Our next PTA meeting will be on April 13th at 6:30. This meeting will be held virtually. Click here for the link.

Lastly, and importantly: we have suddenly had a number of families dropping off fast food for their children, and other children for lunch. We do not allow parents to bring in outside food and ask that you please send your child with their own lunch. As you can imagine it causes upset to students if one group is having Taco Bell or pizza and they are having their packed lunch or cafeteria lunch. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.

Parents please mark your calendars for the following spring concert dates:

Thursday 5/5 String Orchestra

Tuesday 5/17 West Stock (General Music Concert)

Wednesday 5/18  Choir

Thursday 5/19  Band

 Have a great weekend!
