Dear West Shore Families-
Thank you to all of our families for participating in our Open House on Tuesday night. I hope you all were able to get an idea about what your child will be learning in their various classes this year. I know many of you are interested in learning more about how your child is doing their classes and we will host Parent/Teacher conferences next month.
Parent/Teacher Conferences:
Wednesday, October 20, 2021
5:30-8:00 pm
Thursday, October 21, 2021
1:05-3:05 pm
Early release time will be at 12:35 both days. I will be getting more information out to you in the coming weeks.
West Shore will be participating in the Go Gold Day in support of Pediatric Cancer Awareness. Please see the attached flyer.
Tik-Tok Challenge:
As you may have heard on the news there is a TikTok challenge that has gone viral over the last week or two. The challenge or “devious licks” (something that has been stolen) is to have students pilfer or vandalize items at school and then post their antics or “devious licks” on TikTok. At this time, WSMS has seen minor issues in bathrooms related to hand soap bags being taken from hand dispensers, a ceiling tile removed, and a toilet clogged with insulation. In an effort to reduce any further bathroom issues, WSMS has increased it’s monitoring of the bathrooms as staff check the conditions of them more frequently. Furthermore, teachers continue to utilize sign out logs for the bathroom.
As a school community, we are asking for your help to talk with your child and encourage him/her not to get involved in this destructive behavior. Participation in this challenge and destroying school property is not acceptable at WSMS and goes against our value system. Students who are caught engaging in this destructive behavior will face consequences. Thank you for your support with this matter.
Next week WAVE is starting. Families who have been accepted into WAVE have been notified. Additionally, after school activities will begin on Monday, October 25th. Click here for a flyer about the after school activities.
COVID-19 information: When the school receives notification of a possible positive COVID-19 case there may be times particularly when we are notified after school hours or on weekends, that families will be sent an email indicating that their child is to stay home the next school day and that a school nurse will contact the family to discuss the matter and provide guidance on what happens next.
PTA Corner:
Please take a minute and join the PTA. The form is attached and it's super easy this year. There is a QR code that you scan with your camera and the link will bring to you an easy online payment.
PTA is looking for volunteers to head up the 8th grade committee. A flyer will be out soon!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Keramis
