Parent Weekly 11/15/24

Dear West Shore Families,

It has been a wonderful and engaging month here at West Shore Middle School, and I’m excited to share some highlights with you!

Honoring Our Veterans

This past Monday, our school community came together to honor and pay tribute to our Veterans in meaningful ways. Students and staff created beautiful bulletin boards in the hallways, shared powerful stories and books in the Media Center, and set a special table with a white tablecloth to recognize Prisoners of War and soldiers Missing in Action.

We were honored to welcome Master Sergeant George Grillo, who gave an informative and inspiring presentation to our students in the afternoon. On Tuesday, we were treated to a unique perspective from one of our own, Mr. Evan Faughnan, who shared a narrated slide presentation with our sixth graders about his experience as a Captain in the United States Army. These events offered our students a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served our country and deepened their understanding of the importance of Veteran’s Day.

Upcoming Early Release Day

Next week, on Wednesday, November 20th, we will have an early release day for teacher professional development. Our incredible team of educators will be engaged in learning and practicing innovative teaching strategies designed to boost student engagement and agency. Some of our teachers will even be conducting live teaching demonstrations with WSMS students as part of this important training. We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated staff committed to excellence!

Marking Period Reminder

The first marking period officially ended on October 31st. Grades will be available in the Parent Portal starting on November 18th. We encourage you to log in and review your child’s progress. This is a great opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and set goals for the second marking period.

PTA Meeting

A big thank you to our PTA for their ongoing efforts to support our school community! At their recent meeting, they shared updates on their successful fundraising efforts and discussed exciting upcoming events. We are so grateful for their hard work and commitment to enriching our students’ experience at West Shore Middle School.

Thank you for your continued support of our school. Together, we are creating an environment where students feel valued, challenged, and inspired.

Warm regards,

Carrie Keramis
