Parent Weekly 11/1/24

November 1, 2024

Dear West Shore Families,

This past week was full of engaging activities and important learning experiences at West Shore Middle School! Here’s a look back at what happened, as well as some upcoming events to keep in mind:

West Shore Votes – October 29, 30, and 31

WSMS students took part in a realistic voting simulation, learning firsthand about the electoral process and the setup of a polling location. They had the chance to vote on candidates at the national, state, and local levels, gaining an understanding of how democracy works in action. This was an exciting educational experience for our students, sparking enthusiasm about civic engagement and the importance of voting!

Spirit Day – Thursday, October 31

On Thursday, we held a memorable Spirit Day where teachers and students swapped wardrobes for the day! Teachers arrived dressed in student attire, while students showed off their best teacher outfits. The day was filled with laughter and camaraderie, as everyone enjoyed seeing each other in a different light. This was a fantastic way for our school community to come together and have some fun!

Veterans Day “Bring a Veteran to Lunch” – Wednesday, November 8

Looking ahead, we are excited to honor our veterans with a special “Bring a Veteran to Lunch” event on Wednesday. We are thrilled to welcome a wonderful group of veterans, and we thank them in advance for joining us as we celebrate and recognize their service.

Internet Safety Presentation by Scott Driscoll – Next Week

Next week, our students will have the opportunity to attend a special presentation on internet safety by Scott Driscoll, founder of Internet Safety Concepts. Scott’s mission is to educate people on the importance of online safety and the potential consequences of unsafe technology use. His presentation will cover crucial topics such as:

- Social Networking: Positives, negatives, and potential impacts

- Cyberbullying: Protecting yourself and others

- Texting

- Popular/Trending Apps

- Picture Sharing

- Video Chats

- Sharing too much information

- The importance of privacy settings

- Email concerns

- Creating a “digital footprint”

- How technology can impact future opportunities

We are looking forward to having Scott speak with our students and reinforce the importance of safe technology use.
