Parent Weekly 9/20/2024

September 20, 2024

Dear West Shore Families,

This week was full of exciting events and opportunities for our students to grow as leaders and learners.

On Monday and Tuesday, we kicked off our West Shore Sidekick Leadership Training. This program will replace the Wingman Program that we followed in past years during advisory. Our dedicated WSMS program advisors—Mrs. Laudenslager, Ms. Staltaro, Mrs. Wells, and Mrs. Woolf—have been hard at work collaborating with students to update the old advisory games and introduce new ones. The mission of the Sidekick Program is to foster empathy and empower each individual with the belief that they matter. We are excited to see this program take off and help create an even stronger sense of community at West Shore!

This week also brought a special visit to some of our counseling classes. Officer Cox from the Milford Police Department, along with his police dog, Winston, visited the school. Officer Cox shared insights into the rigorous training that goes into preparing a police dog, as well as the important work that he and Winston do in our community. The presentation was engaging and informative, and our students enjoyed learning about the valuable role this team plays.

To close the week, our 8th graders had the honor of hearing from Judy Keene, a 9/11 survivor. Her powerful story was both moving and inspiring, providing students with a firsthand account of resilience and strength.

A reminder for next week: Open House is on Tuesday, 9/24, from 6:00-8:00 PM.  During this event, you will follow your child’s schedule and experience a day in their shoes. It’s a great way to get a feel for what your child’s school day looks like and to meet their teachers. We hope to see you there!

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to another great week ahead.

West is Best!

Warm regards,

Carrie Keramis
