Dear West Shore Middle School Families,
What an exciting week it has been at West Shore Middle School! On Sunday, Mr. Hayes and I had the pleasure of competing in the Pirate’s Cup. Our West Shore Enrichment students designed and constructed a boat for us to use in a race against our colleagues in Milford Harbor. It was a fun and exhilarating day, though quite exhausting!
Monday kept the momentum going as we literally hit the ground running with the annual track meet held at Jonathan Law High School on June 3rd. Mr. Maxwell and Ms. Sidella did an outstanding job preparing our athletes, and it truly showed on the field. West Shore took second place overall, with strong finishes in every event. I am incredibly proud of our students—they really did an amazing job.
Tuesday marked the last day of our WAVE program. Although we got a late start, as soon as the funds came in, we rallied to provide a meaningful program. Students stayed after school four days a week until 5:00 PM, engaging in various activities including homework sessions, arts and crafts, science lab, board game competitions, and athletic events. There was something for everyone, and it was a wonderful way to enhance their school experience.
On Thursday morning, Mr. Kevin Johnson from the Connecticut State Library visited West Shore to give a presentation to our eighth graders. Mr. Johnson, portraying Captain William Webb from the 29th Regiment, delivered an incredibly engaging speech about the Civil War.
The week culminated with our eighth-graders participating in the annual “Stepping Up” Ceremony on Thursday night. It was a beautiful event, filled with proud smiles on our students' faces and joyous families who came in droves to celebrate. The ceremony was well-planned and organized by our dedicated 8th-grade team, making it a memorable evening for all.

Estimadas familias de la escuela secundaria West Shore
Qué semana tan emocionante ha sido en West Shore Middle School! El domingo, el Sr. Hayes y yo tuvimos el placer de competir en la Copa Pirata. Nuestros estudiantes de West Shore Enrichment diseñaron y construyeron un bote para que lo usemos en una carrera contra nuestros colegas en Milford Harbor. ¡Fue un día divertido y estimulante, aunque bastante agotador!
El lunes mantuvo el impulso mientras literalmente comenzamos a trabajar con la competencia anual de atletismo que se llevó a cabo en Jonathan Law High School el 3 de junio. El Sr. Maxwell y la Sra. Sidella hicieron un excelente trabajo preparando a nuestros atletas y realmente se demostró en el campo. West Shore obtuvo el segundo lugar en la general, con buenos resultados en todos los eventos. Estoy increíblemente orgulloso de nuestros estudiantes; realmente hicieron un trabajo increíble.
El martes marcó el último día de nuestro programa WAVE. Aunque empezamos tarde, tan pronto como llegaron los fondos, nos reunimos para ofrecer un programa significativo. Los estudiantes se quedaban después de la escuela cuatro días a la semana hasta las 5:00 p. m., participando en diversas actividades que incluían sesiones de tareas, artes y manualidades, laboratorio de ciencias, competencias de juegos de mesa y eventos deportivos. Había algo para todos y fue una manera maravillosa de mejorar su experiencia escolar.
El jueves por la mañana, el Sr. Kevin Johnson de la Biblioteca Estatal de Connecticut visitó West Shore para hacer una presentación a nuestros alumnos de octavo grado. El Sr. Johnson, interpretando al Capitán William Webb del 29.º Regimiento, pronunció un discurso increíblemente interesante sobre la Guerra Civil.
La semana culminó con la participación de nuestros estudiantes de octavo grado en la ceremonia anual "Stepping Up" el jueves por la noche. Fue un evento hermoso, lleno de sonrisas orgullosas en los rostros de nuestros estudiantes y familias alegres que vinieron en masa para celebrar. La ceremonia fue bien planificada y organizada por nuestro dedicado equipo de octavo grado, lo que la convirtió en una velada memorable para todos.
