Dear West Shore Middle School Families,
We had some more wild weather this week! Looks like it's gonna be another rainy winter. I miss those beautiful New Englands snowfalls. I am glad that our ski club has still been able to get to the mountain both this week and last.
Wednesday, we had an early dismissal for teacher professional development. We continued our focus on HQI (high quality instruction). Staff were engaged in activities focused on creating thinking routines and experiences in the classroom that promote higher order thinking and collaboration among students.
Next week, Southern Connecticut Gas will be replacing the gas lines on Kay Avenue. We are hopeful that they will get the work completed within the week but ask that you all be cognizant of possible traffic issues during arrival and dismissal. Please do not arrive early to pick up or drop off your child to reduce congestion. Also, remind all walkers to walk around the work zones (we will too). The gas company assures us that they have done this work many times in front of schools and it should not be too disruptive.
The WAVE program does not have a start date yet, but we will let you know as soon as we can. We still have a few spots available if you are interested. Click here to register.
The school dance will be on January 26th. The permission slips were sent home this week. Click here for a copy if you need one.

We have Monday off in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I leave you with a quote from this amazing man.

West Shore PTA Updates:
Paint and Pizza Night - January 24th at 6pm, for our family Paint night. Cost is $15 per person. Registration includes 2 slices of pizza, a bottle of water, and all necessary painting supplies. Family Paint night is NOT a drop off event. There are a limited number of seats, registration closes 1/17 or earlier if we run out of seats. Registration is currently at over 50%. Estimadas familias de la escuela secundaria West Shore:
¡Tuvimos un clima más salvaje esta semana! Parece que va a ser otro invierno lluvioso. Extraño esas hermosas nevadas de Nueva Inglaterra. Me alegro de que nuestro club de esquí haya podido llegar a la montaña tanto esta semana como la pasada.
El miércoles tuvimos una salida temprana para el desarrollo profesional docente. Continuamos nuestro enfoque en HQI (instrucción de alta calidad). El personal participó en actividades enfocadas en crear rutinas de pensamiento y experiencias en el aula que promuevan el pensamiento de orden superior y la colaboración entre los estudiantes.
La próxima semana, Southern Connecticut Gas reemplazará las líneas de gas en Kay Avenue. Tenemos la esperanza de que completen el trabajo dentro de la semana, pero les pedimos que estén al tanto de posibles problemas de tráfico durante la llegada y la salida. Por favor no llegue temprano para recoger o dejar a su hijo para reducir la congestión. Además, recuerde a todos los caminantes que caminen por las zonas de trabajo (nosotros también lo haremos). La compañía de gas asegura que han hecho este trabajo muchas veces delante de los colegios y no debería ser demasiado perturbador.

Actualizaciones de la PTA de West Shore:
Noche de pintura y pizza: 24 de enero a las 6 p. m., para nuestra noche de pintura familiar. El costo es de $15 por persona. La inscripción incluye 2 porciones de pizza, una botella de agua y todos los materiales de pintura necesarios. La noche familiar de pintura NO es un evento de entrega.
