Dear West Shore Families-
Tomorrow is the first day of school! We can’t wait to welcome all of our students back to West Shore in the morning. I sent all of our opening day information a few weeks ago but wanted to resend the procedures for a safe arrival and dismissal. Please be patient during the first few days as the traffic at arrival does back up.
Arrival: Students should not arrive at school prior to 7:40 as the school is not open and there will be no adult supervision. 8th grade students will enter through the gymnasium doors if dropped off or through the side entrance if they are taking the bus and report directly to the gymnasium until they are released to their homerooms at 7:55. 6th and 7th grade students will enter through the back of the building and report to the cafeteria until they are released to their homerooms at 7:55.
Morning Drop off: Bussers will walk from the bus directly to their grade level waiting area. 8th grade bus students will enter the building through the side entrance. Those students being dropped off will be let out of their cars in the drop off loop at the front of the building (Kay Ave) only. 8th grade students will enter through the gym doors. 6th and 7th graders will walk around the building to the rear entrance. Staff will supervise them as they walk around to the cafe entrance. Please do not attempt to drive to the back of the building to drop off students. Cars will not have access to the back.
Dismissal: Walkers, parent pick-up, and bike riders will be dismissed out of the front of the school at 2:45. Students who ride bikes must keep them in the bike rack and are strongly advised to bring a bike lock.
I know many of you may be wondering about our after school WAVE Program so here is an update from our WAVE Coordinators
Update: The WAVE After School Program at WSMS
The WAVE After School Program at WSMS is made possible because of a grant from the Connecticut State Department of Education. Please know we worked hard this summer with the help of our partners from Bridges to complete all of the paperwork required to renew this grant. Currently, we are waiting for our application to be approved. We will let you know our plans to get the program running as soon as we hear from the State Department of Education. Thanks in advance for your patience regarding this fabulous program.

Estimadas familias de West Shore:
¡Mañana es el primer día de clases! Estamos ansiosos por darles la bienvenida a todos nuestros estudiantes a West Shore por la mañana. Envié toda la información del día de apertura hace unas semanas, pero quería reenviar los procedimientos para una llegada y salida seguras. Tenga paciencia durante los primeros días ya que el tráfico a la llegada se vuelve a acumular.
Llegada: Los estudiantes no deben llegar a la escuela antes de las 7:40 ya que la escuela no está abierta y no habrá supervisión de un adulto. Los estudiantes de octavo grado entrarán por las puertas del gimnasio si los dejan o por la entrada lateral si toman el autobús y se reportarán directamente al gimnasio hasta que los dejen en sus salones a las 7:55. Los estudiantes de 6.º y 7.º grado entrarán por la parte trasera del edificio y se reportarán en la cafetería hasta que los dejen en sus salones a las 7:55.
Llegada por la mañana: Los trabajadores del autobús caminarán desde el autobús directamente al área de espera de su nivel de grado. Los estudiantes de autobús de 8º grado entrarán al edificio por la entrada lateral. A los estudiantes que sean dejados se les permitirá salir de sus autos en el circuito de entrega en el frente del edificio (Kay Ave) únicamente. Los estudiantes de octavo grado entrarán por las puertas del gimnasio. Los estudiantes de sexto y séptimo grado caminarán alrededor del edificio hasta la entrada trasera. El personal los supervisará mientras caminan hacia la entrada del café. Por favor no intente conducir hasta la parte trasera del edificio para dejar a los estudiantes. Los coches no tendrán acceso a la parte trasera.
Salida: Los caminantes, los que recogen a sus padres y los que van en bicicleta saldrán del frente de la escuela a las 2:45. Los estudiantes que andan en bicicleta deben guardarlas en el portabicicletas y se recomienda encarecidamente que traigan un candado para bicicletas.
Sé que muchos de ustedes se estarán preguntando acerca de nuestro programa WAVE después de la escuela, así que aquí hay una actualización de nuestros coordinadores WAVE.
Actualización: El programa extracurricular WAVE en WSMS
El programa extracurricular WAVE en WSMS es posible gracias a una subvención del Departamento de Educación del Estado de Connecticut. Tenga en cuenta que trabajamos duro este verano con la ayuda de nuestros socios de Bridges para completar todos los trámites necesarios para renovar esta subvención. Actualmente, estamos esperando que se apruebe nuestra solicitud. Le informaremos nuestros planes para poner en marcha el programa tan pronto como tengamos noticias del Departamento de Educación del Estado.
