Parent Weekly 6/2/23

Dear West Shore Families-

This week at West Shore brought a lot of activities!

On Wednesday our student athletes competed in the city-wide track meet. Our athletes really shined on the track.  We were competitive and even broke town records. Our very own Talia crushed it and set a new meet record in the Girls 8th grade 400.  Pretty impressive! Thanks to our parents for coming out to support our students.

On Thursday and Friday, seventh grade students traveled to the Connecticut Audubon Society Coastal Center in Milford.  They worked through informative stations to learn more about the wetlands of our area.  Students even got time to explore the marsh land in that area of Milford and release beautiful butterflies.  Both students and teachers came back with a greater understanding of what is happening along our coast line.

The West Shore Student Council also handed out the last round of awards to our “World Class Wildcats.”  It was great to see so many students recognized for their positive contributions to our school.  It was also great to see students taking an active role putting this program together and keeping it going.  The students (with some help from Ms. Bua and Mrs. Grillo) send out the forms, make the announcements, and take pride in the celebratory handshake to honor each winner.  Nice Job, Student Council!

Our Drama Club, under the guidance of Ms. Connors and Mr. Simmons performed their rendition of “The Wizard of Oz” on Thursday night and will present the play to our school community again tonight.  I caught Thursday night’s performance, and it was incredible!  Everything from the scenery to the costumes was well thought out and absolutely spectacular. I was so impressed by the singing and all of the dancing numbers…well rehearsed.  I know Ms. Connors and Mr. Simmons have worked all year to make this play a success, and they really did a GREAT job!

Finally, our very own Resource Officer was a major contributor to the Special Olympics today.  Officer Sue Clark ran several miles carrying the Olympic Torch through Milford.

Have a great weekend!

Carrie Keramis, Principal
