Dear West Shore Families-
Memorial Day weekend is upon us! We are closing in on the end of the year with eleven days left. However, we are going strong! The band, chorus, and strings programs competed at the Lake Compounce Music Festival last Friday. The judges gave our band and chorus a “Superior” rating, and our strings group an “Excellent” Rating. Pretty impressive!
Last Saturday, our West Shore families came out in the pouring rain to see the BMX presentation held at our school. Aspects of bike safety were promoted, and bike helmets were given out at the event. Congratulations goes out to Ryan W.! He won the bicycle that was raffled off. A big thank you to our PTA for partnering with us on this event.
On Monday, Mr. Acri invited Kevin Johnson from the State Library to come to West Shore Middle School. He dressed up as a Civil War Soldier and spoke from the point of view of a soldier from that same time period. The presentation was engaging, and the students learned a lot. It was a great experience!
On Tuesday, Jane Holler and her Team came to West Shore to speak to our seventh graders. Ms. Holler and her Team spoke about the Uganda Farmer’s Inc. This is a local organization that supports communities in Uganda providing means of building water pumps to bring fresh water directly to the people.
The dinner dance was held on Thursday night at Grassy Hill Country Club. The 8th Grade Committee did a fantastic job organizing the event. The venue was beautifully decorated and all of our students looked lovely. They all seemed to have a great time and danced the night away!
We also held our final spirit week. It was great to see all the school spirit! We started off with a red, white, and blue day and ended with the competitive “Color War” competition. Thanks goes out to the student council for organizing this fun week of events!
This week also brought the end of our WAVE program. Students spent the year with faculty after school engaging in enriching art projects, sports clinics, board game competitions, and so much more! We are so lucky to have such a great program here at WSMS!
Have a great long weekend!
