Parent Weekly 4/6/23

3/31/23

Dear West Shore Families-

Spring break is here!! The staff at West Shore wish you and your families a wonderful vacation. When we return the end of the year will be upon us fast. We have so many things to look forward to. Looking back at this past week though many great things have happened.

The week started off strong with the start of the fourth quarter and spirit week.  Students took the opportunity to dress in fun ways with their friends.  It was great to see staff get involved!

On the morning news, it was announced that the book Because of Winn-Dixie won by a landslide.  The book bracket is complete, and it seems books involving animals are still popular with our middle school readers.

Monday also brought the Sixth Grade Spelling Bee!  Sixth grade teachers mastered the rules, pronounced each word accurately, and gave sentences to help each speller. Students worked through several rounds of words to get to the winner. Congratulations to Abigail Maciag!  She will represent West Shore at the Town Spelling Bee that is run by the Junior Women’s League of Milford later this Spring.

On Tuesday, seventh graders traveled to Quinnipiac to attend the Connecticut Manufacturing, Engineering, and Technology Fair.  Students explored possible career opportunities and got a chance to talk to employment representatives.  Thanks to everyone who helped with this experience.

Finally, our very active Student Council was at it again this week.  As mentioned earlier, the students organized a “Spirit Week” for all to engage in, and they recognized more “World Class Wild Cats.”  We are so lucky to have a club that works relentlessly to positively impact the culture of our school!

Have a great week!

A message from the JLHS Booster Club to our 8th grade families:

The Jonathan Law High School Sports Booster club is a parent run organization at JLHS that supports all our student athletes.  The Booster Club provides grants to sports team for equipment or training that the district's athletic budget cannot cover.  We also provide scholarships to senior athletes, provide the Law Nation program for our students allowing them to enter all home games for one low price and facilitate a Student Athlete of the Month program and much much more!  We invite current 8th grade parents to attend one or both of our remaining meetings this school year - April 27th and May 25th (7pm start) and begin to learn about us and get involved!  If you have any questions, please contact us at jlhssportsbooster@gmail.com
