OHS Family News 4/1/22

Dear OHS Families,

OHS Highlights

This week we are highlighting our Library Media, Music and PE!!

Library Media Highlights

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are participating in Book Madness.   Classes explore different books, complete corresponding activities, and vote for their favorite book.  Next week, students will be choosing the school winner.

Students in Mrs. Levy’s fifth grade class recently demonstrated their problem solving skills to code Artie 3000 robots.  Students had the opportunity to collaboratively complete three challenges.  They even came up with some of their own challenges!

Mrs. Brunau’s second grade class listened to Elise Parley’s How to Catch a Clover Thief.  After the story, students worked together to engineer their own clover thief traps using a variety of materials.

Strings Highlights

Having started the year as complete beginners, the fourth-grade string students are now working on refining their bow control, performing melodies that use all the notes of the D Major scale and rhythms featuring eighth-notes, quarter-notes, and half-notes.

With a year of experience already under their belt, the fifth-grade string students are expanding their range by learning notes on their G-string, which is in a lower register for the instruments. They are beginning to work on longer pieces, as well as gaining familiarity with the 2/4 and 3/4 time signatures. There is also a cohort of fifth-grade students who just started in the fall, and they are working diligently to “catch up” with their peers who started last year.
