OHS 4th grade number detectives are hard at work solving the mystery of which secret agents can transform into squares and cubes. They're exploring patterns, making statements about discoveries and developing an understanding of divisibility rules and strategies for division.

Our 5th grade mathematicians in Ms. Kristie's class worked alongside Dr. Nobili to investigate how much cardboard is needed to manufacture boxes in their box factory and explore the relationship between surface and volume. #HQI

Important Information

Goodie bags - at this time we are continuing to ask our families to not send in goodie bags or other items from one family to the rest of your class.  While in-person visitors are not currently allowed,  an alternative option families can  participate as a virtual “mystery reader” to read a book to their child’s class as a way of celebrating special occasions.  This should be worked out in advance with the classroom teacher and the teacher can set  up a google meet with the family.

Library Media Center Update -We are excited that our school libraries are fully open to students and staff this year.  Book circulation has been very successful and our students are learning how to self checkout! There is no limit on the number of books students may take out, though popular series or titles are based on availability and demand.

Bike Safety

More than any other sport, biking related injuries are the most seen in emergency rooms for children ages 5 to 14. Wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of brain injury by 88 percent. Unfortunately, only 45% of children 14 and under wear a helmet.

Safe Kids Tips

  • Anyone who rides a bike must always wear a helmet. As a parent, it is important to wear a helmet and set a good example for kids to follow.

  • Remind your children to always ride on the far right side of the road with traffic. When turning, use the appropriate hand signals and follow the rules of the road.

  • Before crossing the street with a bike, teach your child to make eye contact with the drivers to make sure they are paying attention.

  • When riding at night, use lights and wear reflective materials to improve your visibility to drivers on the road.

  • Supervise young children on their bikes until they are responsible and able to ride on their own.
