Dear OHS Eagles,
On Monday we celebrated World Kindness Day by having students decorate coffee sleeves for Scratch Bakery. Check it out!
Literacy Highlight-- A key part of Bookworms is helping students become fluent, confident readers, and Choral Reading supports this goal. In this practice, students read aloud together with their teacher at a carefully guided pace, improving their:
Expression, pacing, and fluency—reading with confidence and clarity.
Comprehension—by following along with the group and focusing on key ideas.
Grade-Level Focus:
First Grade: Students focus on fluency skills like rate, expression, and smooth reading.
Grades 2-5: After reading together, students engage in discussion to deepen their understanding of a key focus from the text.
How Families Can Support at Home:
Read aloud with your child, matching your pace and expression to help them model fluent reading.
Use echo reading—you read a sentence or paragraph, then have your child repeat it with the same expression.
Encourage your child to read their favorite books multiple times—repetition helps build fluency!
