Good Afternoon Meadowside Families,

We had another great week of learning at Meadowside.

Throughout the year, there are many celebrations focused on acknowledging the history and contributions of different groups.  Black History Month begins on February 1st. Milford Public Schools continues our commitment to celebrating diversity and the unique gifts and experiences of our Milford Public Schools students, families and staff that make our community so special. Our ongoing goal is to provide opportunities for all learners to see themselves within our curriculum.  If you would like to explore some of the Black History Events events happening across the state you can visit: https://www.ctvisit.com/articles/black-history-month-activities-connecticut

Strings Parents: On Monday, January 23, your child's string teacher e-mailed an important communication about an upcoming concert with musician, Mark Wood.  Please be sure to review the letter and complete the t-shirt order form by February 3rd.  As a reminder, parents are able to order tickets for this event ahead of the public.  It is encouraged that tickets are ordered early as we anticipate a large response for this event once it is opened to the public.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact your child's string teacher.

This week's Community Connection Center's Newsletter This week's Community Connection Center's Newsletter (CCC News)  has links for a FAVORS WORKSHOP, The Recreations Department's TOP SHOT program  and Ct. Mobile Food Pantry.   Each week information about Milford's providers & their programs are listed . You will also find ideas for family friendly activities & places to visit.  And don't forget that the CCC website is also updated with links to community resources.

Couple Quick Reminders:

Cell Phone and Smartwatches: Please be aware that our district policy reads:   “At the elementary level - No use of a cell phone/smartwatch or other personal communication device will be permitted during school hours. These devices must be turned off or on silent and left in backpacks, stored in a student’s locker/cubbie or other place designated by building administration.”  Please help us ensure that all student cell phones and  smartwatches are turned off or on silent and left in backpacks as the sending and receiving of texts and calls is a definite disruption to our learning environment.  Students engaging in texting and calling will be asked to put their devices away or to turn them over to staff for safe keeping.  As always if you need to get a message to your child, please call the office - we are more than happy to pass the message along.

Attendance Reminders: As we progress through the second semester there are just a couple of reminders that we want to share about attendance.

  • In the event that your child is out sick, please remember to sign in to Powerschool to share that your child is absent for the day.  If we don’t hear from you in the portal, your child will have an unexcused absence and you will get a notification that your child is out.  Our attendance policy does state that after 9 Parent Excuses (Yes, indicating your child is out sick in the portal is a Parent Excused Absence), you will need a note from your child’s doctor for additional absences to be excused.

  • Having trouble with the portal?  Please don’t hesitate to call Mrs. Stebbins on our main office line 203-783-3555.  She would be happy to help you or refer you to our Technology department if she can not.

  • Our doors open for students at 8:20 with the expectation that students are in their classrooms ready to learn by 8:40. Students arriving after our 8:40 bell do check in with Miss Megan prior to going to their classroom -- and are marked tardy within powerschool.

  • Please find the district’s full attendance policy here.

Thank you for everything you do to help your child get to school on time and ready to learn! We appreciate your support.
