NEWS

Good Afternoon Meadowside Families,

Thank you to our Fourth Grade Band and Strings students for a great “Informance” last night.  Alongside Mr. Boots and Mr. Burns we learned so much about the instruments they are learning to play!  Thanks to all our parents for supporting our musicians!

Ms. Aliberti’s Fifth Grade class visited Our State Capital in Hartford today for the official swearing in ceremony for the 2023 Connecticut Kid Governor and her Cabinet. We couldn’t be more proud of Liliana for being a member of the cabinet and were so thrilled to have the opportunity to see the program in person -- and learn a lot along the way!

This week's Community Connection Center's Newsletter This week's Community Connection Center's Newsletter (CCC News)  has links for Platt Technical High School's On Campus services and Ct. Mobile Food Pantry.   Each week information about Milford's providers & their programs are listed . You will also find ideas for family friendly activities & places to visit.  And don't forget that the CCC website is also updated with links to community resources. Have a great week!

Thank you to our PTA for hosting another super successful book fair.  Our students were excited to pick out books to add to their reading collections -- and you know how much we love to see our students excited about reading!

Speaking about reading ... reading with your child provides wonderful opportunities for you to both connect with your child and help them grow their developing literacy skills.   Whether they are reading with you or to you -- it is invaluable -- and always enjoyable!  So, if you can, carve out some some time to read together  this weekend.  We will be talking more about the importance of reading together during Read Across America week later next month!

Couple Quick Reminders:

Cell Phone and Smartwatches: Please be aware that our district policy reads:   “At the elementary level - No use of a cell phone/smartwatch or other personal communication device will be permitted during school hours. These devices must be turned off or on silent and left in backpacks, stored in a student’s locker/cubbie or other place designated by building administration.”  Please help us ensure that all student cell phones and  smartwatches are turned off or on silent and left in backpacks as the sending and receiving of texts and calls is a definite disruption to our learning environment.  Students engaging in texting and calling will be asked to put their devices away or to turn them over to staff for safe keeping.  As always if you need to get a message to your child, please call the office - we are more than happy to pass the message along.

Attendance Reminders: As we progress through the second semester there are just a couple of reminders that we want to share about attendance.

  • In the event that your child is out sick, please remember to sign in to Powerschool to share that your child is absent for the day.  If we don’t hear from you in the portal, your child will have an unexcused absence and you will get a notification that your child is out.  Our attendance policy does state that after 9 Parent Excuses (Yes, indicating your child is out sick in the portal is a Parent Excused Absence), you will need a note from your child’s doctor for additional absences to be excused.
  • Having trouble with the portal?  Please don’t hesitate to call Mrs. Stebbins on our main office line 203-783-3555.  She would be happy to help you or refer you to our Technology department if she can not.
  • Our doors open for students at 8:20 with the expectation that students are in their classrooms ready to learn by 8:40. Students arriving after our 8:40 bell do check in with Miss Megan prior to going to their classroom -- and are marked tardy within powerschool.
  • Please find the district’s full attendance policy here.

Thank you for everything you do to help your child get to school on time and ready to learn! We appreciate your support.
