This Week's Heart Assembly: We highlighted ATTITUDE at our HEART Assembly this week with a presentation from fifth graders, discussion of what it means to have a good attitude and celebration of students showing positive attitudes. Ask your child how they continue to show HEART at school and what it means to have a good attitude when it comes to both friendships and school work! Congratulations to all our HEART winners!
Literacy Highlights: We have really been enjoying our transition to Bookworms in our Grade Level Classes this month. As you may have seen in Dr. Cutaia and Mr. Autieri’s November Milford Moment Video, Milford has added Bookworms as our core literacy resource alongside our UFLI phonics and our Heggerty phonemic awareness programs. Bookworms focuses on three key components of a comprehensive literacy program - fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. With a soft launch this month, teachers began the shared reading aspect of this program. Within our shared reading time, teachers read aloud alongside students, often with multiple readings of the same text, each time focusing on different aspects like character development or the author's purpose, to deepen comprehension. The goal is not just to improve reading skills but to cultivate a lifelong passion for reading by exposing students to diverse genres and engaging stories. Our teachers and students are enjoying the new resources and it has been so exciting to stop in and hear the rich discussions taking place in the classrooms.
Read Across Meadowside: Speaking of developing a love of reading, Meadowside will be celebrating Read Across America the first week of March, and we are inviting all our students and families to join us! We will be sending home more information next week but wanted to give you an advanced preview of our Theme Days. Be on the look out for our BINGO board as well for a chance to read at home and be entered into a drawing at school!
