Good evening Meadowside Families

Thank you to PTA for hosting our annual Trunk or Treat this evening!  The event runs tonight from 6-7:30PM and takes place behind the building.   All children must be accompanied by an adult. Click HERE for more information.  The event is $5 per family.  

Monday are our Fall Bus Evacuation Drills.  Meadowside Elementary School will be conducting its Fall school bus training exercise on Monday, October 16th  in coordination with our student transportation provider, Durham School Services.  This training will involve students practicing bus evacuation drills in the event there was ever an emergency on a school bus.  Durham School Services will have Safety Coordinators on site during these training exercises which will take place in the morning time during regular drop off time for students.  We appreciate your support as we continue with our mission to provide a safe school environment for our students, staff and visitors. 

 Weather permitting, we will also be conducting a fire drill next week. This will only be a drill and will be conducted in accordance with the School Incident Management Protocols established by the district, and in collaboration with our local first responders.  Please discuss the importance of our emergency drills with your children. We thank you for your cooperation and partnership with making our schools a safer place for learning.

If you haven’t signed up for a  Parent Teacher Conference yet - you have until Monday at noon.   CLICK HERE to sign up now!  Conferences are  Wednesday, October 18th 1:45-3:45 p.m., Thursday, October 19th 5:30-8:00 p.m., and Friday, October 20th 1:45-3:45 p.m.   All conferences will be in person unless a  parent/guardian requests a Google Meet link directly from the teacher.   If you prefer a virtual session, please contact the teacher to request a Google Meet link to conduct your conference virtually after you have confirmed your conference time through My Conference Time Online Scheduler.   We are looking forward to meeting with you to discuss your child’s learning!  Please note that on all three conference days we will have a modified early dismissal time to accommodate the conference schedule.  Therefore, students will be dismissed on October 18th, October 19th, and October 20th at 1:15pm.

Veteran’s Day is a very important occasion at Meadowside.  On Thursday, November 9th, We will be celebrating Veterans who have protected our freedom over the decades.  If you have a family member, friend or neighbor please help your child with a Blue Star Banner.  If you have a Veteran who would like to participate in being honored at our assembly please click the Invitation and follow the directions.

Looking ahead to our Annual Costume Parade: On Tuesday, October 31st, our students will have the opportunity to participate in a costume parade during the school day.  Click here for more information including time, location and guidelines.  

FALL PTA Reminders: 

BOOK FAIR- Meadowside PTA is excited to announce that the fall Book Fair is: Monday, October 16th During the school day, Thursday, October 19th During the school day for students who need a little more time, and Thursday, October 19th  from 3:00 - 8:00 pm for Families.  The evening event, which overlaps evening parent conferences, is a great opportunity to purchase from your child's wish list or to purchase a book for their classroom off their teacher's wish list. We are looking for volunteers to help at the book fair, please sign up here.

Attendance and Dismissal Reminders: If your child is absent, please log in and report their absence through the  PowerSchool Parent Portal. For directions of how to fill out the student attendance form please click HERE.  As a reminder each student is allowed 9 parent excused absences in the school year any further absences can only be excused with a doctor’s note.  If you have a change in dismissal, please remember to send in a note, or email your child’s teacher and our secretary Miss Jones (jjones@milforded.org) and our greeter Mrs. Megan Ansaldo (mansaldo@milforded.org).  It is important to email all three in the case that one or more of our staff is absent that day.  Additionally, please be patient with us as we ask for IDs at the beginning of the year.  It is important that our staff can confirm who you are prior to releasing your child -- this is for the safety and protection of our students.  As we get to know you, we won’t ask for your identification every time - however, if our regular staff is out, we will need to do so again.
