Good Afternoon Meadowside Families,
Thank you to all our parents and guardians who joined us for parent teacher conferences these last three days. We really appreciate meeting with you and our ongoing partnership in support of your child’s academic and social emotional growth this year. Our little lending library is now open! Our library, which is dedicated to resource teacher Karen Hallstrom who passed away last year, is stocked with books collected through Kid Governor Cabinet Member Lilianna’s R.E.A.D. campaign. Students can borrow and donate books from the library at any time!
March Madness continues this week in the Media Center -- check out the final standings and ask your children who they are cheering on for the winning book!
Monday are our Spring Bus Evacuation Drills. Meadowside Elementary School will be conducting its Spring school bus training exercise on Monday, April 3rd in coordination with our student transportation provider, Durham School Services. This training will involve students practicing bus evacuation drills in the event there was ever an emergency on a school bus. Durham School Services will have Safety Coordinators on site during these training exercises which will take place in the morning time during regular drop off time for students. We appreciate your support as we continue with our mission to provide a safe school environment for our students, staff and visitors.
Our Meadowside Mindfulness in Residence Program wrapped up with grades 1,2 and 5 this week. This coming Monday we continue with the first session for K, 3, and 4. Their sessions will run 4/3, 4/17, 4/24. Thank you again to our PTA for bringing us this in residence program!
Reminder: Meadowside Career Day Meadowside Presents Career Day is going to be in person on April 19th and we are looking for parents to share their careers with our students! Kick Off to Kindergarten In School Event for Incoming Kindergarteners this May: Fully registered families, please be on the lookout for more information next week about an in person kindergarten event in the spring. If you haven’t registered yet for your incoming kindergartener - please visit the district website and do so now. Reminders:
- You must register your child for Kindergarten at the school determined by your street address, unless placed by Pupil Personnel Services. School/Street Assignments are available on the district website under “District Information.”
- Students must be at least age five (5) on or before December 31, 2023, in order to register for Kindergarten.
- Current MPS preschool or Ready To Learn students do not need to complete an online registration packet.
- If you need assistance with the registration portal, please contact the main office for your district assigned school. School contact information can be found on the district website under “ Schools.”
This week's Community Connection Center's Newsletter: This week's Community Connection Center's Newsletter has information for UCONN's People Empowering People's (PEP) "Toasty Toes Sock Drive," ending March 31, 2023, as well as “MILFORD HELPING HANDS'' (MHH), a second group of PEP parents. MHH invites you to join them during April for a "Spring Trash Pick Up!" There are links for a Consumer Reports article about dangerous ingredients found in common foods, CT's SNAP program, End Hunger CT. Under Fun Family Activities, Macaroni Kids, a free letter from the Easter bunny, and Apple Barrel Farm Market's April 8th event, "Bunnies & Paws.” Remember that the CCC website is updated with links to community resources. - PTA Meeting: We will meet in the media center at 6:00 pm on April 18th. We will be discussing end of year events.

- Spring Plant Sale: PTA Spring Plant Sale will be May 12th during the school day. This is just in time for Mother’s Day. More information to follow.
