February is Black History Month - Throughout the year, there are many celebrations focused on acknowledging the history and contributions of different groups. Black History Month begins on February 1. Milford Public Schools continues our commitment to celebrating diversity and the unique gifts and experiences of our Milford Public Schools students, families and staff that make our community so special. Our ongoing goal is to provide opportunities for all learners to see themselves within our curriculum. If you would like to explore some of the Black History Events events happening across the state you can visit: https://www.ctvisit.com/articles/black-history-month-activities-connecticut
If your child is out sick and you go to the doctor's, don't forget to get a note so we can make it an excused absence. Parents are only allowed 10 notes a year. Notes can be faxed over to (203)783-3688.

Specialist Spotlight - Music
Greetings from the music room at JFK! Our K and 1 students continue to learn new songs to sing, and still enjoy practicing a steady beat by playing instruments. Grade 3 is finishing up their group poster presentations about families of instruments in the orchestra. The posters will soon be on display in the halls near room 24. Grade 4 has begun working on singing as a member of a chorus, in preparation for a spring performance! (More on that soon.) In gr 5, we have enjoyed writing compositions on the score-writing website "Flat.io". This work is in preparation for their group composition & performance project, which will begin later this month.
We have some exciting news to share about some of our Gr 5 singers. Four students have been chosen by Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) to sing in the Elementary Honors Chorus on Friday, March 31st in Hartford! They are James D, Justin G, Harlow M, and Aubree O. Congratulations! Also, we have ten singers representing JFK in the Milford Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM) Chorus Festival concert on Thursday, March 23rd at Parsons Auditorium. They are Ben B, Karina B, Liam C, Bennett D, Larissa F, Srikar M, Deeksha S, Ava S, Nicole S, and Izzy S. Many congratulations to you all!
I hope you all enjoy the upcoming February break, and seek opportunities to explore music together! Feel free to reach out to me with any music questions at tvoss@milforded.org Ms. Theresa R. Voss

The program is $90, which includes all materials, and is limited to the first 30 registrants. Go here to sign-up today!
5th grade Family Yearbook Info
Attention 5th grade families! Each year the PTO purchases a yearbook for every 5th grade student, but we need your help to make it special! Please read this letter for important info about the yearbook, and check out our new online option for easily uploading pictures, including a baby picture of your child! We want to see your JFK memories, so get those photos uploaded by Friday, March 3rd, so we have time to include them in the final layout!
