Hello JFK Families!

We have our next PTO meeting coming up Wednesday night at 7 pm. This is a great opportunity to hear all about the great things we have going on at the school and learn about ways you can get involved. We hope to see you there!

Have a great weekend!

Attention String Parents  - On Monday, January 22, your child's string teacher emailed an important communication about an upcoming concert with musician, Mark Wood.  Please be sure to review the letter and complete the t-shirt order form by February 3.  As a reminder, parents are able to order tickets for this event ahead of the public (link is included in the letter).  It is encouraged that tickets are ordered early as we anticipate a large response for this event once it is opened to the public.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact your child's string teacher.

Thank you all for your support of this!

Community Connection Center - This week's Community Connection Center's Newsletter (CCC News)  has links for a FAVORS WORKSHOP, The Recreations Department's TOP SHOT program  and Ct. Mobile Food Pantry.   Each week information about Milford's providers & their programs are listed . You will also find ideas for family friendly activities & places to visit.  And don't forget that the CCC website is also updated with links to community resources. Have a great week!

The CCC honors all family inquiries as private and confidential unless parent permission is given or Connecticut mandated reporting applies.

February is Black History Month - Throughout the year, there are many celebrations focused on acknowledging the history and contributions of different groups.  Black History Month begins on February 1. Milford Public Schools continues our commitment to celebrating diversity and the unique gifts and experiences of our Milford Public Schools students, families and staff that make our community so special. Our ongoing goal is to provide opportunities for all learners to see themselves within our curriculum.  If you would like to explore some of the Black History Events events happening across the state you can visit: https://www.ctvisit.com/articles/black-history-month-activities-connecticut

Specialist Spotlight - Spanish

¡Hola from Señorita Polansky!

¡Feliz año nuevo- Happy New Year! I can’t believe we are already approaching February! Students in all grades started out the new year with self-reflections about their progress in Spanish class. Each class brainstormed and collaborated on how they can be their best selves in Spanish and how they can improve their Spanish proficiency. Some goals we have are:

  • Being good “language detectives” by looking and listening for clues

  • Taking risks and trying new things

  • Staying in “Spanish mode” by acting things out and using as much Spanish as we know

To learn more about our curriculum and proficiency, please click HERE to visit the Elementary World Language Website.

In all grades we are also starting our second unit, which encompasses the theme of “Community”. Kindergarteners and 1st graders are focusing on learning about their immediate classroom and school communities, while 2nd graders will branch out further to explore the Milford community and their neighborhoods. 3rd and 4th graders are beginning to talk about their families as part of their community and “Circle of Love”.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns at rpolansky@milforded.org.

A Note from Nurse Jeffrey: Please review the test-mask-go policy regarding covid-like illness at the following link. The policy is also found on the Milford Health Department website under School Health Division, Covid-19 Information.
