Hello JFK Families!

The students did a great job this week transitioning back from winter break. We were very impressed with their readiness to learn in the classroom!! Thank you for reinforcing the importance of these expectations at home!

Just a reminder that as it is starting to get colder, students should come to school with appropriate clothing to keep them warm during recess. A warm coat, gloves, and a hat have seemed to work most effectively. If you are experiencing hardship and unable to purchase any of these items for your child(ren), please reach out to the school.

I am looking forward to our upcoming PTO meeting this Wednesday, January 11th, at 7 pm. The information can be found below in our PTO News section.

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Brennan

Specialist Spotlight - Art

Happy New Year JFK families!

I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing winter break! Pre-k and kindergarten are practicing texture with paints to create winter inspired art. Grade 1 looked at the artist Charley Harper to become inspired by his nature pieces and will be creating birds from different shapes. Grades 2 and 3 have been learning how to weave with paper and turning their weavings into sleeping bears (2nd) or winter houses (3rd). Grade 4 is learning about watercolor resist and is creating a winter landscape using oil pastel, tape, and watercolor. Lastly, grade 5 is working on a sculpture art inspired by Louise Nevelson! I’m excited to see all the creativity that happens in art in 2023!

If you want to reach out, feel free to email me at kbenedetti@milforded.org and show me some of the work being created at home!

PTO News

January Starts Membership Month!

If you loved all the fun programming we sponsored during the Fall, it’s not too late to join the PTO and help support all the fun things we have planned for the Spring. For January’s Membership Drive, we have two exciting chances for you to win prizes. Here are links for Family Membership forms and Staff Membership forms.

First, our January PTO meeting (Weds, 1/11 @ 7pm) is Bring a Friend Night! Everyone who attends gets entered into a drawing for fun prizes, but if you bring a friend (who isn’t a current PTO member), you both get entered 2x! Plus there will be snacks and childcare.

Second, all this month, we’ll be giving away membership prizes! Anyone who is a member by 1/31, has a chance to win. Bonus for new members- if you join this month, you get entered 2x!

Family Paint Night is Coming!

We’re hosting Family Paint Night on Tuesday, 1/24 at 6:30pm in the JFK cafeteria. Students will paint along to instructions from a local artist and take home their unique canvas creation at the end of the night. I promise you won’t want to miss having one of these beauties on your wall! Stay tuned for more details about how you can register your young artists!

JFK Learns Taekwondo!

For the new year, we have a new local partnership with World Champion Taekwondo, here in Milford. They are offering a free trial class to all JFK students and families followed by a 4 week class for only $89 (which includes a uniform!). Besides learning an exciting new skill, $50 of your class fee comes back to the PTO. What’s not to love??

Attention 5th grade families

There is a lot of great work being done to celebrate our 5th graders this year! If you have a 5th grader, please complete this form as soon as possible to avoid missing out on our important information about your child's final year at JFK!
