Specialist Spotlight - Music

Music learning is moving right along here at JFK! We have been working hard the past couple of weeks preparing for our Veterans Day celebration next week! Every student will be singing one of our patriotic songs, to honor our Veteran guests. Ask your child to sing their song for you–it is good practice for them! Beyond our patriotic songs, we are continuing to work on many other aspects of music learning. Grades K and 1 are learning new songs, and have enjoyed playing hand percussion, working on keeping a steady beat. Grade 2 has been using their music reading and ear training in new ways, plotting notes on the staff and playing hand percussion. Grade 3 has begun their study of the orchestral instruments. Ask them how sound is produced on a string instrument! Grade 4 is learning to sing and read all the steps of the scale, and will apply that learning next to writing melodies. Grade 5 is preparing their Winter Concert, which is on Tuesday, Dec 6, at 6:30pm. Grade 5 families, please watch for a letter to come home next week with all of the concert details. Please reach out if you have any questions. Hope to see you soon!

Veterans Day is Next Week!

JFK has a long history of honoring the special veterans in our community, and this year we are bringing back the Veterans Breakfast. If you have a special veteran in your family, please invite them to attend. After breakfast, they will be special guests at an all-school assembly the kids have been working hard to prepare. Please sign-up here if you’ll be attending the breakfast, and we hope to see all our JFK veterans there!

Mark your Calendars for the JFK Play - Tuesday, 11/15 @ 6:30PM

Our talented JFK actors are almost stage-ready and are excited to share their amazing performance with you! Join us on Tuesday, November 15th at 6:30PM for "The Wizard of Oz (sort of)" in the JFK Gym. Tickets are free! Check out the flyer for more info!

We have also partnered with Livy Lou Flower Truck for an opportunity to pre-order a bouquet for your favorite JFK actor! Use the link below to pre-order by Friday, November 11th. Two Hour Power Hour Challenge!

If you’ve already joined the PTO, you know there are absolutely NO volunteer requirements! However, if you become a member and volunteer for 2 hours at some point during the year, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a super fun family adventure limo ride with free ice cream!

After school theater rehearsal Monday for ALL GRADES

Our next rehearsal will take place Monday, November 7th 3:45-5PM for all participants grades K-5.   As a reminder all kids must have all of their lines memorized - we have just 2 rehearsals to go until the performance. We appreciate your help in reminding them to continue practicing this weekend so they are prepared for Monday. Any questions please email liz.shipman@gmail.com

Attention 5th grade families

We would like to be able to reach out to 5th grade families directly throughout the year to gather information for the yearbook (pictures, memories etc ) as well as the end of year celebration planning opportunities. If you have a 5th grader, please complete this form as soon as possible to avoid missing out on our important communications about your child's final year at JFK!

Call for volunteers - 5th grade committee/families are responsible for organizing pie pick-up.  If you can help on Thursday, November 17th, please sign up here https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0C4BAAAC23A0F94-piecookie
