Hello JFK Families!
This seemed like a very fast week here at the school! It was so nice to see so many families in our building to meet with teachers about their children’s progress. Please know that you can reach out to our staff any time to further plan or discuss. Communication between the school and home is an important component to student success. Thank you for partnering with us!
I am looking forward to seeing everyone tonight at Trunk or Treat! This is always one of my favorite PTO events! I’ve got my truck ready to go, so be sure to come out and say Hi! Looking forward to a fun filled night for our students!
Have a great weekend!

Specialist Spotlight - World Language
¡Hola from Señorita Polansky!
We have had an exciting start to the year in World Language! I am excited to announce that Pre-K is receiving Spanish 1x a week for 10 minutes each class, grades K through 2 are receiving Spanish 3x a week for 20 minutes each class and 3rd and 4th graders are receiving Spanish 2x a week for 30 minutes each class. In each grade, we started the year getting to know one another by learning different greetings and how to ask someone their name in Spanish. Click HERE to watch a video of 1st graders playing a fun name game!
Pre-K and Kindergarten classes are being exposed to the language through different songs, videos and stories in Spanish to learn how to introduce themselves, greet others, and show how they are feeling. I am sure your child has come home singing “Hola, Hola, ¿Cómo estás?” or our “Adios mis Amigos” song!
1st graders are starting our unit on Identity by learning how to talk about their birthdays and how old they are through songs, stories and hands-on activities. Click HERE to watch one of their favorite songs on YouTube to learn about birthdays and months of the year.
2nd graders are diving into our Identity unit by learning how to describe themselves and others. We have talked about different physical characteristics, as well as, likes and dislikes. One of our favorite games to play is “¿Quién Es?” or Guess Who?, where students have to listen to clues as I describe a student in the class in Spanish (using visuals and gestures) and they have to guess who it is!
In 3rd and 4th grade we started our Identity unit by creating Identity Journals, where each student received a folder to decorate and express themselves. Throughout the year, we will be completing different pages of our identity journals to express what our name means to us, our birthdays, and family traditions- just to name a few. Students in 3rd and 4th grade are starting to speak more Spanish with other students in partner and whole-class activities.
I am so excited to be back at JFK and see every student grow in World Language this year! You can learn more about our program by visiting our Elementary World Language Website. As always, please feel free to contact me at any time at rpolansky@milforded.org. ¡Gracias!
