Hello JFK Families!

Hawk-a-thon is coming soon! We are really excited to make this a school wide event and our teachers are actively planning activities that our students will engage in throughout the day. This was a great event last year and we are looking forward to another fun filled day of learning and activities that connect in some way to our hawk mascot. Thank you to the PTO for all their hard work, support, and effort to help plan and organize the day!

Have a great weekend!

Specialist Spotlight -  Art

Art has been amazing so far at JFK this year! PreK-5 students began the year learning how to draw self-portraits, exploring different watercolor techniques, and adding features that make each student who they are.

As fall rolls in, all grades are going to be creating their own fall inspired pieces. Kindergarten students will soon be working on skills such as cutting, gluing, and painting to create their own apple baskets. Grade 1 is learning about symmetry, monarch butterflies, and how to use oil pastels while making their symmetrical butterflies. Grade 2 is also learning about symmetry and composition to create a sunflower field. Grade 3 is taking a look at Vincent Van Gogh’s sunflowers, learning about composition and creating their very own still life! Grade 4 will be analyzing the work of Japanese artist Yayio Kusama to create pumpkins. Grade 5 will be working on one point perspective to create autumnal scenes.

This last month has been wonderful creating with everyone! I am so excited to see what is in store for us as the year progresses! If you want to reach out, feel free to email me at kbenedetti@milforded.org

Hawk-a-Thon is Going Strong!

Hawk-a-thon is in full swing! The easiest way to get involved is to sign-up for your child’s fundraising page HERE. Then just send the link to your family and friends! Remember, anyone who raises ANY amount qualifies for raffle prizes and helps the PTO support our JFK community throughout the year.

Hawk-a-Thon is off to a great start! Right now 1st and 3rd grade are battling it out for FREE McDonald’s ice cream.

If you haven’t signed-up for your child’s fundraising page yet, it’s not too late. Just go HERE and get started. A huge thank you, also, to those who are still sending in personal checks and donations. Just make sure everything is in an envelope with “Hawk-a-thon” written on it. Every dollar counts and means we can do more fun activities for our kids throughout the year.

Hawk-a-thon is a single day of JFK spirited fun where kids raise money to support the PTO and win super cool prizes. This year it’s on Friday, Oct. 14th, and if you raise ANY amount, you can win prizes! Check out our PRIZE flyer for more info

Our prize list is growing all the time, but it’s never too late to donate! If you are a local business that wants to support JFK, let us know at ptojfk@gmail.com

There’s Still Time to Join the PTO!

The start of a new year means it’s time to renew your PTO membership! If you’ve never been a member, joining is a great way to support the programs, events and resources we provide our JFK community all year long. Click here for the PTO Family Membership form, or here for the PTO Staff Membership form

Two Hour Power Hour Challenge!

There are absolutely NO volunteer requirements for joining the PTO! However, if you join and volunteer for 2 hours at some point during the year, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a super fun family adventure limo ride with free ice cream!

Lyman Pies & Cookies are Back!

Our popular pie and cookie dough sale starts on Monday - keep an eye out for an email next week. All pies and cookie dough will be delivered frozen the week before Thanksgiving. That makes it even easier to take a break from baking and support JFK PTO at the same time - it's a WIN! WIN!
