We had a very special PTO meeting this past Wednesday night as we thanked our outgoing PTO board members for their years of service and we welcomed our incoming board for the 22-23 school year. I know we say this often, but we can not thank our PTO enough for all their support, time, and effort to enhance our students' school day throughout the pandemic. Thank you again for all that you have done and continue to do!!
We have two exciting end of year events coming up next week! Field Day is scheduled for Thursday, June 9th and the end of year JFK Family Luau celebration is Friday, June 10. Physical Education - Mrs. Anastasiou will be returning from her maternity leave this Monday, June 6th. We wanted to take this opportunity to give a big thank you to Mr. Hanson for teaching Mrs. Anastasiou’s classes while she was out. Mr. Hanson did a tremendous job connecting with students and delivered engaging lessons during his time here. We are fortunate enough to have Mr. Hanson with us for the remainder of the school year as a building substitute.
Virtual Art Show - The Milford Virtual Art Show is up and running! I'm so excited to showcase our students' wonderful work. They did such a great job throughout the school year and I hope that you all get a chance to check out what we've been working on in the art room!

Library Book Returns- As the year begins to wind down, we are working to collect library books that have been checked out to students this year. Bins will be placed around the school for students to return books and reminder slips will be sent home to students who have books checked out. Please take time to look through your house and bookshelves to ensure library books are returned! The last day that students can check out books from our school library is Friday, June 3. Thank you! Specialist Spotlight - Physical Education - This will be my last newsletter as the school year comes to an end. It has been about 3 months since I started at JFK and I have had a blast getting to know all of the students and staff here. It will be bittersweet to bid farewell to the gym as Ms. Anastasiou will return on Monday.
We have been busy in P.E. since we returned to school from April break. The first week back I pulled out the parachute for some fun cooperative activities with all the students from kindergarten to 5th grade. All the students really enjoyed the parachute activities since we could not use it for almost 2 years.
In grades 3 - 5 we moved on to a quick soccer unit where we worked on all the essential skills from dribbling to shooting and finished with Zone Soccer, a modified soccer activity. After soccer for 3rd and 5th grade we worked on our invasion tactics through a variety of capture the flag like activities. We will be finishing up this week and next practicing and preparing for Field Day on June 9th.
In grades K - 2 we worked on our footwork skills like dribbling, shooting and passing. We had some fun stations that students rotated through so they could work on each skill at their own pace. After the soccer/footwork unit in K - 2 I set up stations to work on their striking skills. We had beach volleyball, soccer shooting, a tee ball station so they could practice swinging a bat and more. Like grades 3 - 5 we will be finishing up the week working on field day activities so they are ready for the fun and games.
These 3 months flew by so quickly but I am happy to announce that I will be back here at JFK in the Summer as the Summer School P.E. teacher!

5th Grade Committee News!
The 5th Grade Celebration for students is on Tuesday, June 14th (rain date 6/15) from 12-3pm, and parent volunteers are needed! Please sign up here. Congrats to our PTO Parent of Honor 2022 - Jasmine Fitzroy
During our PTO meeting this week, we took a moment to honor and thank long-time PTO member, Jasmine FitzRoy for her years of service to JFK PTO. For many years she was the chairperson of our popular JFK Family Luau and in her final year at JFK took on a board role as Corresponding Secretary and 5th grade committee chairperson. Sadly (for us), her daughter is moving on to middle school next year – JFK PTO and our community will miss you, Jasmine! Thank you for everything you have done to support JFK PTO and families!
