Test Kits - As indicated in P-6153 MBOE Policy Field Trips, “The Milford Board of Education (Board) recognizes that field trips are an educationally sound part of the approved curriculum of the District.” In alignment with our standard field trip and large group protocols, all reasonable steps are taken to promote the safety of participants who are engaged in field trips and/or large group activities. We encourage your student to perform a COVID-19 at-home test before the trip/large group activity and five days after the completion of the trip/large group activity. Free at-home test kits will be sent home two days prior with your child. If you do not want this to come home with your child please let their teacher know beforehand. Test kits will also be available at school. If your student becomes ill while on the trip or during the large group activity, you will be contacted to pick up your child from the trip/event location.
Respect Stars - Respect Stars - May is Respect Month! Each classroom discussed respect and what it means and who should represent their classroom as their respect star. Congratulations to all the winners. Certificates were sent home earlier this week. Two students were nominated to be the Ambassadors of Respect to represent our school at the Annual Respect Celebration on Tuesday, May 24th, City Hall at 6:30 PM. They are Henry Altieri and Camryn Pacelli. All Respect Stars will be invited to march in the Memorial Day Parade scheduled for Sunday, May 29th. More details to come.
Middle School Transition - On April 25, a letter was sent to each Grade 5 family listing the district assigned Middle School for the 22-23 school year along with information on the May 19, 2022 middle school visit day. Please contact the main office if you have any questions. As always, thank you for your continued support. We value your involvement, partnership, and support in your child’s education!

Bins will be placed around the school for students to return books and reminder slips will be sent home to students who have books checked out. Please take time to look through your house and bookshelves to ensure library books are returned! The last day that students can check out books from our school library is Friday, June 3. Thank you! Specialist Spotlight - Music
Greetings from the music room at JFK! I hope you all are enjoying the beautiful weather, as we speed toward the end of the school year. Our Pre-K, K, and grade 1 students continue to learn new songs, rhymes, and movement to help them to be ‘tuneful, artful, and beautiful’. In the remaining weeks, we will take music outdoors when we can, to explore some of our game songs. Grade 2 and 3 are focusing on reading pitches and rhythms as they play pitched instruments (glockenspiel, metallophones, and xylophones).
Grade 4 just completed their fabulous Spring Performance on Tuesday, May 10th. One of their songs featured text from the picture book, "Change Sings", by Amanda Gorman. As we explored that text, students thought about how they can create positive change in their world. Please see the attached photo of the poster with some of their ideas. They are now excited to begin our brand new Ukulele unit! In grade 5, the students are learning about Piano and playing keyboards. This is a great application of their music-reading knowledge.
Grade 3 students will be visited in the near future by Mr. Burns (Strings teacher) and Mr. Boots (Band teacher), to learn about their opportunities for grade 4. Stay tuned for more information!
I hope you all continue to seek opportunities to explore music together! Feel free to reach out to me with any music questions at tvoss@milforded.org
