Hello JFK Families,

We had a treat from the PTO today with a virtual assembly featuring performer Billy B! He shared his “Ways of the Bay” program with us and taught us all about how water travels through our ecosystem and out to the Sound. Billy B began the presentation by talking about, and showing visuals of, the water sources right here in Milford. It was great to have that personalized touch for our students! Thank you PTO, Mrs. Fuller and Mr. Sabo for organizing such a fun event!

Make sure you check out our specialist spotlight! Mr. Sabo conducts a very interesting science experiment that can easily be replicated at home with your children! Mr. Sabo loves feedback and pictures! If you or your children have any questions after the experiment, please reach out to him!

Please don’t forget to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences! The window began a few weeks back and will close March 25th.

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Brennan

Specialist Spotlight - STEM

In science, we are just finishing up our second cycle, with all grades now having done two of our new science units. Third grade had a ball exploring forces and motion, while our first graders learned about light and sound. Grade five even ventured into space, and a trip to Foran High's Planetarium will be coming up later this year. Moving forward, all of our students will start units that explore nature, with Kindergarten focusing on living things, Grade four doing a deeper dive on the structure and function of the same living things, and finally, seeing grade two focusing more on plants and flowers.

In this week's video, we explore the difference between hydrophobic and hydrophilic substances, with some very surprising results.

School Attendance

Regular school attendance and overall student safety and well-being are always vital for laying a foundation for success during the school year. Paying attention to attendance is even more essential this year, given the unique challenges created by COVID-19 for schools, families, students, and community providers.

  • Stay home if you are sick! Complete the COVID-19 Daily Self Checklist at home before you send your child to school.  If your child(ren) has any symptoms, no matter how mild they seem, do not send them to school.  Notify your school of the absence using the current MPS Student Absence Reporting Procedure and your School Nurse will follow-up regarding next steps.

  • If your child is feeling well and answered “no” to the COVID-19 Daily Self Checklist, please send your child into school. We know that students learn best with regular attendance. In-person attendance each day is the best school experience for our students when other challenges do not prevent students from getting to their schools.
