Hello JFK Families,

We are looking forward to next Friday’s PTO sponsored virtual assembly, "Ways of the Bay", presented by Billy B! As always, we appreciate all the support we receive from the PTO! We are excited to have this opportunity for our students, make sure you ask them all about it!

We also plan to conduct a fire drill at some point next week, weather permitting. At the conclusion of the drill, we will send a notification to families that it is complete. Please reinforce the importance of these drills with your children. Thank you for all your support!

Have a great weekend!

Specialist Spotlight - Spanish

Hola from Spanish with Señorita P!

In Kindergarten, we are wrapping up our unit on “Family” by looking at paintings from Mexican- American author Carmen Lomas Garza. Garza paints memories and family traditions from her childhood growing up in Texas. In 1st grade, we are continuing our “Discovering the World” unit with a focus on animals. Students have been able to virtually see lots of animals around the world in their different habitats! In our 2nd and 3rd grade classes, we have started a new unit exploring animals, with a focus on the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. Students are able to virtually visit different countries using Google Earth, allowing them to explore other parts of the world right from the classroom. Gracias!

Older, but still relevant news!

School Attendance

Regular school attendance and overall student safety and well-being are always vital for laying a foundation for success during the school year. Paying attention to attendance is even more essential this year, given the unique challenges created by COVID-19 for schools, families, students, and community providers.

  • Stay home if you are sick! Complete the COVID-19 Daily Self Checklist at home before you send your child to school.  If your child(ren) has any symptoms, no matter how mild they seem, do not send them to school.  Notify your school of the absence using the current MPS Student Absence Reporting Procedure and your School Nurse will follow-up regarding next steps.

  • If your child is feeling well and answered “no” to the COVID-19 Daily Self Checklist, please send your child into school. We know that students learn best with regular attendance. In-person attendance each day is the best school experience for our students when other challenges do not prevent students from getting to their schools.
