Hello JFK Families,

We had an amazing week of themes and activities to celebrate Read Across America! Thank you to Mrs. Rosengrant, Mrs. Depuma, and Mrs. Soder for all their hard work and efforts to make this week fun and engaging for our staff and students. My favorite part was dressing as your favorite book character, which occurred today! I would also like to thank the PTO for organizing book donations for each classroom! Make sure you check out just some of the great pictures from this week below!

Mrs. Anastasiou will be beginning her maternity leave Monday. We are very excited to have Mr. Hanson as her long term substitute while she is out. Mr. Hanson began earlier this week and is already getting to know our students, staff, and what it means to be a part of this great JFK community of learners! If you would like to reach out to Mr. Hanson, his email is ehanson@milforded.org. We wish Mr. and Mrs. Anastasiou the best and we can’t wait to see all the baby pictures!

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Brennan

Specialist Spotlight - Physical Education

Hello JFK Families and Friends!

This will be my last parent news from P.E. before I have a new baby! While I am gone Mr. Hanson will be taking over P.E. classes! He is so excited to get to know our amazing JFK community!

In grades K-2 we have been talking about the winter Olympics and got to play winter Olympic sports like curling, hockey, bobsledding, snowboarding, ice skating and cross country skiing. It was cool to experience these sports in our gym but even cooler to watch them happen on TV! Now that the Olympics are over we are now playing fun stations like ring toss and bowling!

In grades 3-5 we have been working on our hand-eye coordination skills. We developed our overhand and underhand throwing, as well as, our catching skills to prepare for a game called Slam Ball. We are now playing a Slam Ball tournament where we continue to work on overhand throwing and catching, along with good sportsmanship and cardiovascular endurance.

P.E. is super fun right now and I am sad to be leaving for a few months but I am thrilled to become a mom and I can't wait to share who Baby Anastasiou is when we meet them!!! Stay tuned!

Have a great weekend!

~Ms. Anastasiou~

Older, but still relevant news!

School Attendance

Regular school attendance and overall student safety and well-being are always vital for laying a foundation for success during the school year. Paying attention to attendance is even more essential this year, given the unique challenges created by COVID-19 for schools, families, students, and community providers.

  • Stay home if you are sick! Complete the COVID-19 Daily Self Checklist at home before you send your child to school.  If your child(ren) has any symptoms, no matter how mild they seem, do not send them to school.  Notify your school of the absence using the current MPS Student Absence Reporting Procedure and your School Nurse will follow-up regarding next steps.

  • If your child is feeling well and answered “no” to the COVID-19 Daily Self Checklist, please send your child into school. We know that students learn best with regular attendance. In-person attendance each day is the best school experience for our students when other challenges do not prevent students from getting to their schools.
