Hello JFK Families,
Mrs. Fuller, Mr. Sabo and I had a ton of fun wearing our wigs today! It was great to see the reactions of students when we went to their classrooms today! Thank you to all our JFK families for your efforts to make the fundraiser a success!
We also wanted to give a special congratulations to our music teacher, Ms. Voss, who was recently recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the CT ACDA (American Choral Directors Association). This honor was even more special because the award was presented to her from a former student! Ms. Voss has been actively involved with the choral community in CT regularly serving as an adjudicator, CMEA Region Direction and several times as an Ensemble Chair at the regional, state and All Eastern level. Please join me in congratulating Ms. Voss!!

Specialist Spotlight - Media News
Hello JFK families! My name is Kristin Soder and I am new to the role of School Library Media Specialist. I am enjoying learning alongside your children and I hope to meet many of you as the year progresses. For now, here are some updates on the work we have been doing.
Pre-K students finished two units, "All About Me" and "Community Helpers," and are now discussing the Fall season. Kindergarteners are recognizing books as fiction or nonfiction and are naming the parts of a book. First graders are spotting the nonfiction text features that make reading informational texts easier and will start a fiction, story elements unit next. The students in grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 all completed a "Digital Citizenship" unit using lessons from Common Sense Education (for family tips, look here: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/parent-concerns). Next, we will build on our research skills by navigating our subscription-based databases: PebbleGo, PebbleGo Next, and Britannica School.

Hawk Prize Drawings and Operation Silly Wigs Complete!
A huge Thank You to everyone who made Hawk-A-Thon 2021 such a huge success! Congrats to all our prize winners! Because we overshot our goals by so much, we also had 3 very silly wigs walking around JFK today. Thank you to Mr. Brennan, Mrs. Fuller and Mr. Sabo for being such great sports and supporting our school!

Help JFK Give Back for the Holidays!
This time of year, it is especially important to give back to our community, so the JFK PTO is hosting a Pop’s Restaurant fundraiser on Weds, 12/8 benefitting Milford Food 2 Kids. When you order (dine-in, take-out or delivery!), mention JFK PTO, and 20% of the proceeds will go to help feed kids and families here in Milford. This is another way that we can all come together to take care of each other and our community.

Volunteers Needed for Pie Pick-Up
The pies are coming! The pies that were ordered as part of the 5th grade fundraiser last month will be arriving on Nov.18th, and we need volunteers to help with distribution. If you can be at JFK to help out from 3:30-5:30pm on 11/18, please fill out the volunteer form here.
