Hello JFK Families,
We had such a great time today for Hawk-a-thon!! The students did a great job supporting each other and cheering on their classmates! On top of that, the weather was great! Thank you to the PTO for all their support and help with planning for today’s events. We would also like to thank the PTO for providing our staff lunch today, it was delicious, we really appreciate this kind gesture!!
It looks like we met our fundraising goal and Mrs. Fuller and I will be wearing a wig to school next Friday! The students have been asking me about it all week and have been giving tons of suggestions for the type of wig I should wear! They really make me laugh! Thank you to all our JFK families for your support to make this a successful event that was fun and engaging for our staff and students!
If your family would like to submit a Thank You message to include in our JFK community Veterans Day tribute video, please fill-out this online form by next Tuesday, 11/9. Any questions, email ptojfk@gmail.com
Have a great weekend,
Mr. Brennan
Fire Department Visit to Kindergarten
The Kindergarten classes enjoyed a special visit from the Milford Fire Department on Wednesday. The firefighters taught them about fire safety. They showed them what was on the fire truck and let them sit in the drivers' seat. One of the firefighters dressed up in full gear so they could see what they wear when they go on calls. It was so fun for them to watch them drive away and put their lights and sirens on!
Water Bottles Reminder
Please remember to send in a reusable water bottle with your child. They have access to our water stations and can refill as necessary throughout the day.

Specialist Spotlight - Art News
Art has been wonderful so far at JFK! K-5 students began the year learning how to draw self-portraits, exploring different watercolor techniques, and adding features that make each student who they are!
As fall rolls in, all grades are creating their own fall inspired pieces. Kindergarten students are working on skills such as cutting, gluing, and painting to create their hedgehogs. Grade 1 learned about symmetry, monarch butterflies, and how to use oil pastels while making their symmetrical butterflies. Grade 2 learned about artist Gustav Klimt, warm colors, and patterns to create their fall tree of life. Grade 3 is taking a look at Vincent Van Gogh’s sunflowers, learning about composition and creating their very own still life! Grades 4 & 5 just wrapped up the annual Fire Prevention poster. Grade 4 will be analyzing the work of Japanese artist Yayio Kusama to create pumpkins. Grade 5 will be working on one point perspective to create autumnal scenes.
These past few months have been wonderful getting to know and create with everyone here at JFK! I am so excited to see what is in store for us as the year progresses! If you want to reach out, feel free to email me at kbenedetti@milforded.org
Remote Learning update
Please take a moment to review the shifts in the MPS Remote Learning Update that was sent out last week. As such, the MPS attendance and Engagement: Guidance for Remote Learning document has been updated to reflect these shifts. Please take a moment to review.
Goodie bags - at this time we are continuing to ask our families to not send in goodie bags or other items from one family to the rest of your class. While in-person visitors are not currently allowed, an alternative option families can participate as a virtual “mystery reader” to read a book to their child’s class as a way of celebrating special occasions. This should be worked out in advance with the classroom teacher and the teacher can set up a google meet with the family.

Help Us Honor Our Veterans
For Veterans Day this year, we will be creating a video to honor the veterans in our JFK community. We invite your family to write a message or record a short video to be included. Google form for submitting Veterans Day messages
Additionally, if you have a special veteran in your life that you would like to honor, you can submit that person’s information for a special shout out. The video will be shared with students on Veterans Day and distributed to our community through the school’s weekly parent email.
Volunteers Needed for Pie Pick-Up
The pies are coming! The pies that were ordered as part of the 5th grade fundraiser last month will be arriving on Nov.18th, and we need volunteers to help with distribution. If you can be at JFK to help out from 3:30-5:30pm on 11/18, please email ptojfk@gmail.com
Save the Date for Paint!
We’ll be hosting another Virtual Paint Night on Dec. 2nd, so keep an eye out for the sign-up form going live next week. This was a big hit last year, with small artists producing great works just in time for the holidays!
Look at some of the great learning that happened at JFK this week!
