SOARing through the Week at JFK

November 15, 2024

Hello, JFK Families!

What a fantastic week it has been at JFK! On Monday, we came together as a community to honor our veterans with a heartfelt Veterans Day celebration. The students' performances and tributes truly highlighted the importance of gratitude and service.  Thank you to the many Veterans who visited our school and to Mrs. Koosa, Mrs. Voss, Mrs. Benedetti, Mrs. Soder, Mrs. Kirby, and our fabulous PTO for working together to put on a very special event.

Wednesday brought the spirit of compassion and connection as we celebrated World Kindness Day. It was wonderful to see acts of kindness ripple through our school, reminding us all of the power of small gestures. Each day on our “Kind Campus” I am reminded by our Hawk-some students and staff the importance of demonstrating kindness to all.

This week we also experienced a magical performance of The Alice in Wonderland Show by our talented student cast. Their hard work and creativity shone brightly, leaving the audiences mesmerized.  We were so proud of our actors!  Thank you to Pantochino Productions and to our PTO volunteers who worked tirelessly for many weeks to bring this show to life!

Thank you for your continued support and partnership, JFK families! Remember to take care of yourself, our community and most of all BE KIND!

Specialist Spotlight - Physical Education

Hello JFK Families and Friends!

Wow! What a fall we are having!!! In P.E. and Health classes we are busy, busy, busy working on new (and old) skills that we can use at home and outside on our beautiful fall afternoons and weekends!

Pre-K classes are getting to practice skills like balancing on stilts and ice skating on scarves. We are also using our scarves for dancing, tossing and catching!

In kindergarten, first and second grades we are now learning about how to be an appropriate space invader. We will play tag games like trolls tag, zoo keeper tag and ant tag to learn how to be in someone else's space appropriately. We will also be giving out a bunch of high-fives too!!!

In third, fourth and fifth grade we are creating fitness activities to apply our fitness knowledge we have developed over the past 2 months. Students will work in small groups and use age-appropriate fitness equipment to create a fitness activity they will later teach to their classmates! Finally, fourth grade has begun their health unit, where they will work on developing decision making skills mainly focusing on water, train and sports safety.

We are SOARING in P.E. and Health and I feel so lucky to be a part of your student's journey!!!

Ms. Anastasiou

Please remember to send in a reusable water bottle with your child.  Students have access to our water stations and can refill as necessary throughout the day.  Please note that students are allowed to drink water during the school day.  Outside drinks (DD, Starbucks, etc are not encouraged)

MPS Health Department Guidelines

Hearing and vision screenings have begun! Please make sure your student has their glasses with them.

With the weather getting colder please make sure your child has appropriate outdoor clothing for recess.

If clothing is borrowed from the school health office please wash and return :)

If possible, pack a spare set of clothes in your child's backpack. Accidents happen! Students can get wet on the playground or spill on themselves at lunch. It's always helpful to have extra clothing available
