SOARing through the Week at JFK
October 11, 2024
Hello, JFK Families!
Crisp fall mornings have officially arrived! We encourage students to dress in layers, as the temperature can vary, especially by afternoon recess. 🍂
Next week marks our Fall Conferences on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. Please note that there will be a 1:15pm dismissal on each of these days. We look forward to the opportunity to meet with you during conference time to best meet your child’s needs. The home to school partnership continues to be an essential part of our school’s success!
Next week is also our beloved Scholastic Book Fair! 📚 Thanks to our PTO who have organized the bookfair for our learning community. Our Media Specialist, Mrs. Soder, will be bringing classes to shop during media class.
Lastly, be sure to mark your calendars for our Trunk or Treat event next Friday evening. Please continue to feed our “JFK Candy Monster” so that we have plenty of goodies for Trunk or Treat. We can’t wait to see our families at this fun event!
Have a great weekend, JFK! Remember to take care of yourself, our community and most of all BE KIND!

Specialist Spotlight
Hello JFK Families and Friends!
My name is Ms. Benedetti and I’m your student's art teacher this year! This year, I will be the only art teacher Monday - Friday!
In PK and Kindergarten we have been exploring new materials and ways to use them! We have painted, learned how to use scissors correctly, and much more!
In first and second grade, we are using painted paper to collage! First grade is making fruit bowls inspired by Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein, while second graders are making fall owls!
In third, fourth, and fifth grade, we are practicing different techniques. We are learning about perspective in third. Fourth graders are creating 3D sculptures inspired by artist Yayoi Kusama. Fifth graders are creating weavings inspired by trees and different seasons.
I’m excited to keep creating with your students this year!!

Smarter Balanced Assessment- Grades 4 & 5
Gr 4 & 5 SBA assessments were sent out to families this week. An informational letter can be found 2024 SBA Letter 2024 NGSS Letter.
Gr 4 & 5 “Minute Meetings”
We are excited to start Minute Meetings with all of our 4th and 5th graders. Minute meetings are brief, face-to-face conversations that our school counselor will have with each 4th and 5th grader this fall. The purpose is to get to know our students better so we can best meet their needs and to make sure all of our students are connected with an adult in school they can go to if they need support. School counselors get to know each child by asking them a few simple questions about their friends, what adult they go to if they need help, their challenges, and their interests. Please contact Mrs. Swope, our School Counselor, at jswope@milforded.org if you have any questions about Minute Meetings.

MPS Health Department Guidelines
Within the next few weeks the school health office will begin hearing and vision screenings.
With the weather getting colder please make sure your child has appropriate outdoor clothing for recess.
If clothing is borrowed from the school health office please wash and return :)
If possible, pack a spare set of clothes in your child's backpack. Accidents happen! Students can get wet on the playground or spill on themselves at lunch. It's always helpful to have extra clothing available
