SOARing through the Week at JFK

Hello JFK Families!

It’s hard to believe that our winter break is right around the corner!  We are doing our very best to stay focused on learning here at JFK. There is certainly a buzz in the air this season!  The students are excited for our upcoming spirit week and they are especially looking forward to our winter sing-along on Friday afternoon.  As we know, “the best way to spread holiday cheer is singing loud for all to hear!”   We look forward to our community coming together in a joyful way this holiday season.

While this is an especially busy time of year for families, I wish all of our Hawk families a peaceful weekend.  Take time to enjoy one another and remember to BE KIND!

We love to celebrate your child’s birthday and make holidays throughout the year special; however, we do not allow goodie bags of any kind to come into school. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you wish to come in and be a guest reader for the class or hand out a pencil, crayons or bookmark instead.  To ensure all items are safe for all children we just ask that a gift bag of any kind not come in for birthdays or holidays.  Thank you.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2024-2025 School Year

The December assessment appointment window is closed for those families that have requested a waiver for their child to enter into Kindergarten for the 2024 - 2025 school year.  If you requested a waiver, but did not have the opportunity to schedule a December appointment, you will receive a communication in the near future to make an appointment for the next Kindergarten Waiver assessment. The online Kindergarten registration will remain open, if you  have not had the opportunity to register, please do so.

❤️‍🩹News from the Nurse

Hello families!

  • With cold/flu season upon us please remember to be diligent with handwashing and notify the school nurse of any communicable illnesses. There is a copy of the illness guidelines on the MPS JFK website under the nurse's office tab.

  • Reminder - all PreK students need a flu shot by the end of the year.

  • Remember to make sure your student has a winter coat for outdoor recess.

  • With the weather changing a lot of children have been getting very chapped lips, send in chapstick if possible.

  • The school health office will be continuing to conduct hearing and vision screenings.

  • Change of Clothes - If your child comes home with clothing from the Nurse’s Office, please wash the item and return it to school as soon as possible so it is available for other children when needed. We do encourage parents of our students to pack a change of clothes in their child’s backpack.

Specialist Spotlight -STEM

Hi JFK Families,

The last few weeks have been very busy, getting all classes into the science lab for activities ranging from building a maze from popsicle sticks, to lighting a lightbulb with a battery, to launching a turkey on a daring escape from thanksgiving dinner!

Going forward, I will be taking a short time on leave for the birth of my first child. However, the STEM lab will still be open for all students to use during the next few weeks!

In the meantime, if students are looking for fun science experiments to try at home, I recommend trying this experiment, blowing up a balloon with an alka seltzer tablet! Of course, feel free to try any of the other experiments that I have demonstrated in this Folder!

If you do try any, please reach out and let me know how it went!
