Hello JFK Families,

We hosted kindergarteners and their families this week.  There are several new families for  JFK and I know you will all make them feel welcome in August.

Field Day was a huge success.  Thank you to all of the parents who assisted us in making this a wonderful day.   A special shout out to Mrs. Anastasiou for doing all of the planning and to Mr. Dale for having us ready for the day!

Staff has been working diligently on creating class lists for next school year.  We are hopeful that JFK will have three kindergarteners and first grades next year.  At this time, we have enough students but things sometimes change over the summer.  Stay tuned.

Please take some time to discuss with your children why we have a long weekend.  This is a solemn holiday but one that I believe students should understand.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Lost and Found - We have many items in the lost and found.  All items will be donated on the last day of school . Please remind your student to come and look for any lost items.

Community Connection Center -This week's Community Connection Center's Newsletter (CCC News)   contains information for Milford's Memorial Day, summer camps,  and two free family events happening this weekend in Connecticut. If you are looking for more information go to the  CCC website for updated links to community  resources. Have a pleasant  Memorial Day!

The CCC honors all family inquiries as private and confidential unless parent permission is given or Connecticut mandated reporting applies.

Being fully present means having your focus, your attention, your thoughts and feelings all fixed on the task at hand. If you are speaking to somebody, then your attention and energy is focused on that person and what they are doing.

Being present is an important communication skill. We show others that we are interested in and value what they have to say if we are present when interacting with them.

Here at JFK we want our students to be present during lessons so they can learn to the best of their ability. Students also need to be present when they converse, work, and play with peers.

Please model and reinforce being present with your child to help raise their awareness of being present when interacting with others.

Parent University - This Parent University will be focused on summer reading and will take place on June 6th.  We hope you can join us.  See the attached flier with the registration link and more information.

In the Spotlight  - Media

As we unofficially kick off summer this weekend, I have a few things for you to note ...

The last day to borrow books is June 2nd. I will leave a cart in the vestibule so students can easily drop off their library books, even on their non-library days. If there is a book that you cannot find, do not worry. "Lost" books can be returned at any point during the school year.

Our projects are finishing up. If you have a student in the upper grades, ask to see their "Name Your Adventure" book or their digital yearbook page. The students in the lower grades are learning more about using our online catalog, Destiny. If you are interested in your child viewing ebooks over the summer, we have some available through a partnership with the public library. From Clever, click on Destiny. Next, click on Catalog. Then, click on Destiny Discover. Your child can use Google single-sign on to log in. Scroll down and see the section on ebooks. Anything "In" may be borrowed!

Thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your children this year, with a special shout out to the 5th grade families! Best wishes for a safe and happy summer!
