Hello JFK Families,

Happy Mother’s day to everyone who is the role of mom for our JFK students.  It is your weekend and I hope you feel loved by your families.

The concert this week was fabulous! Thank you to the staff who worked so diligently with our students to support them in their musical endeavors.

Thank you to the PTO and all of our families for “spoiling” us all rotten this week!  From the food to the flowers, we truly felt appreciated.

Please pay close attention to Field Day sign ups and the input sheet for your child’s/children’s placement.

Enjoy the weekend!

In the Spotlight -  Music

Greetings from the music room at JFK! I hope you all are enjoying the beautiful weather, as we speed toward the end of the school year. Our K and grade 1 students continue to learn new songs, rhymes, and movement to help them to be ‘tuneful, artful, and beatful’. In the remaining weeks, we will take music outdoors when we can, to explore some of our game songs. Grades 1 and 2 have been playing “Closet Key” this week, out in the fresh air. Ask them how it’s played!

Grade 3 is making progress on the recorder. They are being challenged to become independent readers, and to give each other helpful feedback as they work on their new songs. I really enjoy hearing them make music on this instrument! Also, these students will be visited in the near future by Mr. Burns (Strings teacher) and Mr. Boots (Band teacher), to learn about their instrumental opportunities available to them in grade 4. Stay tuned for more information!

Grade 4 just completed their fabulous Spring Performance on Wednesday, May 10th. I was SO proud of their expressive singing, and I think they were, as well! They are now excited to begin our brand new Ukulele unit. In grade 5, the students are learning about the piano and playing keyboards. This is a great application of their music-reading knowledge, as they learn a new skill.

I hope you all continue to seek opportunities to explore music together! Feel free to reach out to me with any music questions at tvoss@milforded.org
