In the Spotlight -   Media

Did you watch the NCAA tournament this year? Just as we were rooting on UConn from our homes, the students were cheering for their favorite picture books in the Library Media Center! "Book Madness" was a district-wide literature appreciation event; we could see how the brackets from across the district were shaping up as we participated in similar lessons and makerspace activities. At the time of this writing, JFK's final match is too close to call!

I'd like to personally thank the PTO for putting on another successful book fair! It made the kids so happy; I've heard many glowing book reviews in the days since! Thank you for all you do on behalf of our children!

Wishing you a happy and healthy vacation with lots of good family time! As always, reach out if you need anything!

Books for Break coming home today!

Today each class will be visiting the “Books for Break” store set-up at JFK! Every student gets to choose a free book to take home and keep. A special thanks to Ms. Soder for helping curate the book selection for each grade level! The PTO is using the profits earned from previous Book Fairs to purchase all the books, so be sure to check those backpacks!

Announcing this Year’s Campus Kindness Project!

The PTO is sponsoring a new 6'x8' mosaic mural in the hallway just inside the front entrance at JFK. The design is being created with Ben’s Bells, a national organization dedicated to encouraging kindness among individuals and communities. The mosaic is made of small tiles of various colors in a design that

captures the JFK Hawk spirit. The process will have multiple steps, so all JFK students will be able to participate and leave their own kind mark on our school.

The first step is creating all the tiles used in the design. We are offering all 5th graders the opportunity to help shape and cut out these tiles on Tuesday, April 18th from 4-530pm. (If we need more volunteers, we will open the invitation up to other grades). For more information and to RSVP for tile making, please see the attached flyer and return the attached permission slip

More information will be coming soon about the next steps in the process for all students and parents to participate! Please email ptojfk@gmail.com with any questions!

Mark Your Calendars - It’s Spring Dance Time - 4/21!

We’re excited to announce that the JFK Spring Dance is coming on Friday, April 21st from 6-8pm in the JFK gym! See the flyer for more info. The planning committee is hard at work putting all the details together, and they are looking for donations to be raffled off during the event. If you are interested in donating, please email Stacy Stevens at stacey619@gmail.com

Mark Your Calendars for the Yard Goats - 6/10!

We are so excited to be hosting a JFK families night at the Hartford Yard Goats baseball game on Saturday, June 10th! Game time is 6:10pm, and we’ve got a group of tickets reserved, so we’ll all be together. Check out the flyer for more information on how to get your tickets today! If you need a paper copy of the flyer, email us at ptojfk@gmail.com

Help Us Celebrate our JFK Teachers and Staff!

In early May, we’ll celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week with a number of fun activities for all our JFK staff. The PTO is making things even easier on families this year and asking for gift card donations (around $10!). Rather than purchasing individual gifts for all your child’s teachers, you can simply donate a gift card, and we’ll take care of the rest! If you do send one in, please send it in a sealed envelope with “JFK PTO” written on the outside. You can email ptojfk@gmail.com with any questions, and thank you!
