Student/Staff Volleyball Update - 

  • Students beat staff today in our first ever student/staff volleyball event. 

  • Thank you to Mrs. Santelli and the Student Council for sponsoring the volleyball fundraiser in honor of Avery Lafferty.

    • HMS students donated $808 dollars to help support Avery’s Little Army in the fight against pediatric cancer.

    • The Student Council donated proceeds from their school store sales to increase the total funds raised for Avery’s Little Army to $1000. 

  • Thank you to all the students and families who supported the fundraiser by donating funds.

  • A special thank you to Mr. Clark for setting up the gym at Parsons Complex.

Smarter Balanced Assessment Testing Starting Soon - 

  • As noted in the important dates section below, HMS students will begin taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment on Monday, May 12. 

  • Testing, along with make-up testing, will end on May 28.

  • During the testing window:

    • Students are to be at school in their homerooms at 8:00 AM (Just like normal).

      • Students not arriving prior to 8:15 AM of testing will not be permitted into the testing site and will go to the Media Center Lab until the testing is completed. 

        • Students late to school/testing or absent on a testing day will be scheduled for a make-up test and be pulled from class to take the assessment.

    • Students are taking the assessments first thing in the morning.

      • HMS is running a delayed schedule on testing days only. Make-up days will run on a regular day schedule. 

        • Testing days (Delayed Schedule) - Block 1 classes start at 10:00 AM

          • Monday, May 12 - Tuesday, May 13 

          • Thursday, May 15

          • Monday, May 19 - Tuesday, May 20

          • Thursday, May 22 - Grade 8 only for Science

        • Make-up days (Regular Schedule) - 

          • Wednesday, May 14 and Friday, May 16

          • Wednesday, May 21, Friday, May 23, Tuesday, May 27, and Wednesday, May 28. 

  • Students will need to come to school everyday with charged chromebooks, headphones or earbuds, and their chromebook charger.

MPS Summer Volleyball Clinic - 

  • MPS hosts an annual volleyball open gym clinic for girls in grades 7-12. 

  • The clinic will be at Jonathan Law High School on Mondays and Wednesdays, 7-9 p.m., from June 23 to August 13.

Cell Phone/Smartwatch Policy Reminder - 

  • As a reminder and per the district’s policy At the middle school level - No use of a cell phone/smartwatch or other personal communication device will be permitted during school hours. These devices must be turned off or on silent and left in backpacks, stored in a student’s locker or other place designated by building administration. The exception at the middle school level is when the use of a cell phone is authorized in a classroom for academic purposes with the consent of the teacher.

  • Please know that any violation of the district’s policy will result in discipline which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

    • 1st Offense: Remind the student of the policy and have the student turn the phone over to the teacher. The teacher will deliver the phone to the office and the student can pick up the phone from the greeter as they are dismissed from school.

    • 2nd Offense: The student hands the phone over to the teacher. The teacher will deliver the phone to the office. The student is to call home notifying a parent that his/her/their phone was taken for a second time and that a third offense will require a parent to pick the phone up from the school. The student can pick up the phone as they are dismissed from school. 

    • 3rd Offense: The student hands the phone over to the teacher. The teacher will deliver the phone to the office. The student is to call home notifying a parent that his/her/their phone was taken for a third time. The student informs the parent that he/she/they will not get his/her/their cell phone back until a parent picks it up from school.

  • April 18 - No school in observance of Good Friday.

  • April 21- April 25 - No school for Spring Recess.

  • April 29 - Grade 7 Adventure Park trip.

  • April 30 - Early dismissal for students and Professional Learning for staff.

  • May 12 - May 23 - Smarter Balanced Assessment testing window.

  • May 22 - Grade 8 NGSS Science Test.

  • May 14 - Early dismissal for students and Professional Learning for staff.

  • May 26 - No school in observance of Memorial Day. 

  • May 28 - Grade 8 to Holiday Hill.

  • June 2 - All District Middle School Track Meet at Law. More information to follow.

    • June 3 - Rain date.

  • June 6 - Grade 8 Moving Up Ceremony

  • June 11 - Last day of school.
