GOOD AFTERNOON HMS FAMILIES:
Students are still settling into this year’s classrooms and schedules, and our teachers are continuing to memorize all their new names and faces. The weather this week has been fantastic for walks around the building, as well as outdoor activities after lunch and we hope you continue to enjoy the crisp mornings and warm afternoons over the weekend. It’s time to break out those sweaters to wear while waiting at the bus stop!
Please take a moment to review a few important updates and reminders.

HMS Lockdown Drill Next Week -
Conducting emergency drills (fire, crisis, lockdown, etc.) is one of the most important ways we enhance our preparedness for students and staff during an emergency. Drills allow us to practice what we need to do when an emergency arises in our school.
HMS will be conducting two drills (fire and lockdown) next week. These are only drills and will be conducted in accordance with the School Incident Management Protocols established by the district, and in collaboration with our local first responders. Please discuss the importance of our emergency drills with your children. If you have any feedback please reach out to Ms. Vitaletti (svitaletti@milforded.org) or myself (sgottlieb@milforded.org). We thank you for your cooperation and partnership with making our schools a safer place for learning.
HMS Tardiness Reminder -
Students will be considered tardy to school if they are not in their assigned classrooms by the school’s start time which is 8:00 AM. Please note that our bells are synchronized to cell phone and computer clocks.
Students arriving late to school must report to the Greeter to check-in. All tardy arrivals are considered unexcused unless a doctor’s note is provided.
Tardies resulting from professional appointments (medical, legal, etc.) must be documented by an original note from that professional and submitted at the time the student signs in with the Greeter in the Lobby. These notes must be on the professional’s original letterhead.
Excessive tardiness will result in the following;
At five (5) tardies, students will receive notification that they have been tardy five (5) times and that additional tardies will result in consequences/intervention. For example,
At (ten) 10 tardies, a student will receive an after school detention for being tardy for ten (10) days.
After the first detention, a student will receive an after school detention for every five (5) tardies after the original detention was given.
Students with chronic tardiness will receive additional interventions/consequences.
