HMS News

GOOD AFTERNOON HMS FAMILIES:

I am starting to feel like I am in Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day as our rainy weather continues to be a repeat each weekend. The good news is that the forecast for Saturday is less gloomy than previous weekends as only scattered showers are possible at this time. Fingers crossed that the rain holds off this weekend. For you college fans, especially those that follow Penn State, the Nittany Lions play Ohio State Saturday at noon. As it may be rainy, what a great excuse to do nothing but watch college football for about three hours. If you are following the baseball playoffs, the Phillies and Rangers are up 2 games to one in their respectful series.

Please take a moment to review a few important updates and reminders.

    • If you have a scheduled early dismissal for your student, please email our Greeter:  ktilt@milforded.org.  She will give your child an early dismissal permission slip and have them prepared to be picked up at your requested time.

      • If the early departure is due to a doctor’s appointment, a note on the office letterhead is due upon return to school to be recorded as an excused early dismissal into PowerSchool.

    • Please know that if your child is not feeling well, they are to report to the nurse to be evaluated before they can be dismissed.

      • Students are not to be texting or calling parents/guardians to be picked up early due to not feeling well.

  • Start of School Reminder and Tardiness -

    • Students are to enter the front of the building starting at 7:40 AM and all students are to be in their assigned homeroom for the start of school at 8:00 AM.

    • Students will be considered tardy to school if they are not in their assigned classrooms by the school’s start time which is 8:00 AM.  Please note that our bells are synchronized to cell phone and computer clocks.

      • Any student arriving late to school must report to the Lobby Greeter to check-in. All tardy arrivals are considered unexcused unless a doctor’s note is provided.

      • Tardies resulting from professional appointments (medical, legal, etc.) must be documented by an original note from that professional, and submitted at the time the student signs in with the Greeter in the Lobby.  These notes must be on the professional’s original letterhead.

      • Excessive tardiness will result in the following;

        • At five (5) tardies, students will receive notification that they have been late for school five (5) times and that additional tardies will result in consequences/intervention. For example:

        • At (ten) 10 tardies, a student will receive an after school detention for being late for ten (10) days.

        • After the first detention, a student will receive an after school detention for every five (5) tardies after the original detention was given.
